Exciting developments are taking place in our community. See below.
🚨 **NEW OUTDOOR WARNING SIREN SYSTEM INTALLATION TO BEGIN MONDAY 🚨**
Okmulgee County Emergency Management (OCEM) is proud to announce the installation of a new, modernized **Outdoor Warning Siren System** beginning **Monday, April 27, 2026**, with completion expected by **Friday, May 1, 2026**—just ahead of peak severe weather season.
📍 **New Siren Locations:**
• District 1 Yard – Beggs
• Twin Hills Public School
• Preston Public School
• Wilson Fire Department (across from Wilson Public School)
🔧 **Additional Improvements:**
• Two siren upgrades in the City of Morris
• Relocation of a siren on S. 280 Rd (near Trinity Baptist Church)
• Full automation upgrade for the Town of Schulter’s siren
⚙️ **System Enhancements:**
These high-powered sirens are fully automated and integrated with weather alerts. When a tornado warning is issued and includes a siren location, it will activate automatically. The system also includes backup communication methods and can be manually activated if needed. Each unit is solar-powered to ensure operation during power outages.
💰 **Funding:**
This project is funded through a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, covering 75% federal funding with a 25% local match—reducing the impact on local taxpayers.
🗣️ **Why It Matters:**
Outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert those **outdoors** of imminent hazards. They are one part of a layered warning system. Residents are strongly encouraged to also use:
• NOAA Weather Radios
• Mobile alerts
• Local media
• Genasys Alert notifications (WEA/IPAWS)
⚠️ **IMPORTANT NOTICE:**
During installation, **testing of the sirens will occur (weather permitting)**. Residents in these areas may hear sirens during this time—**this is only testing, and there is no cause for alarm**.
This project strengthens our county’s ability to deliver fast, reliable warnings and helps protect our communities—especially our schools—when it matters most.
