REMINDER:

The boat ramp at Flying Point Park will be closed today through Sunday, May 14 for the NPBA Boat Races. However, Flying Point Marina will be open and available to use for free that weekend, sponsored by The American Power Boat Association!

If you are in the area, please make sure you check out the National Power Boat Races which will be held at Flying Point Park the weekend of May 13-14. Flying Point Park will remain open to the public. There will be very limited parking available.

We are pleased to announce that Eden Mill Nature Center has been recognized as a recertified 2023 Maryland Green Center through the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE). There are only 46 active Maryland Green Centers in the state, and Eden Mill Nature Center has been one since 2008!

Over the past four years, Eden Mill Nature Center has demonstrated and documented a continuous effort to integrate sustainable environmental management practices, environmental education curriculum, professional development opportunities, and community engagement into its daily operations. This award signifies that the center has made a commitment to developing stewards of the earth and reducing the environmental impact of our center.

Way to go Eden Mill!

If you frequent the trails or picnic areas located within Mariner Point Park, you may have noticed our licensed tree contractor working for the department to remove approximately 17 trees that were identified as dead and or hazardous to public safety. In addition to the dead trees, three invasive Bradford Pears were removed.

By removing these dead or actively dying trees, we hope to minimize damage to the park as well as maintain a safe walking area. As part of the critical bay buffer plan, the Department of Parks and Recreation will be planting 20 native species trees to replace the trees that were removed.

Eden Mill's Nature Homeschool class had the opportunity to watch the installation of a package of honeybees during its April session! Not only did they learn about a beekeeper's safety gear and what it means to install a package of bees, they also got an up-close look at a queen bee, worker bees, and frames full of brood, nectar, and honey from another hive! Some participants even held a male bee, called a drone, because they don't have stingers! What a fun program! Looking for another homeschool program?
