Today's shout-out goes to GAIN-Geriatric Assistance and Information Network for its donation towards our CAPABLE program efforts supporting aging in place services for low-income seniors. The $1500 check was presented to the head of our Repair Program Terry Hottle (at left). CAPABLE is being pilot tested at five Habitat affiliates over a two year period and will involve working closely with homeowners, local health care providers and handyman services to prioritize critical home repairs that will improve the health, usability and safety of a home and its owner.

Our thanks to Kodwo Ewusi from FIBI LAW (pictured with Yvette, Yvonne, Karen and Anne) for his informative presentation on immigration law. We got a kick out of the pin he was wearing that says "Mr. Incredible." It was given to him on Father's Day with explicit instructions by his son to wear it every day this week and take a pic to prove it! Well, here's the proof! 📷😁

Sen. Cassilly visit to HdG subdivision

In the February issue of our Habitat Susquehanna newsletter, we mentioned the support we were getting to introduce a bond bill to help us with our "Revolutionary Homeownership" program -- plans to build a total of seven houses on a lot in Havre de Grace, our first subdivision. This subdivision will consist of a single-family home (Kathryn's home, which was dedicated on May 3rd), and six duplex units. (Our Women Build Week was the focus of the first two of those duplex units.) We're now thrilled to announce we were approved for $100K (of our originally-requested $175K) in funds for this capital project.

Maryland State Senator Bob Cassilly (pictured with volunteers from Cummings & Co. Realtors) visited our Havre de Grace site after the news was announced. We are so grateful to him and to Delegates Lisanti, McComas and Johnson for their support of funding this "revolutionary" project.

To date, the "Revolutionary Homeownership" sponsors for the seven homes planned for Habitat Susquehanna's first subdivision are: APGFCU, Bank of America, Bob Ward Companies, Harford County Government, Harford Mutual, Maryland Affordable Housing Trust, Rosedale Federal Savings & Loan Association, Saint Margaret Parish - Bel Air, City of Havre de Grace, Community Legacy Program, State of Maryland (Bond Bill) and Wells Fargo. We thank them for helping these seven families achieve their dream of homeownership! Photographer for the event: Cathy Herlinger.
