We spent the last 2 days visiting with students at Southampton Middle School. They are set and ready to take on the Summer Reading Challenge.
BUT! More importantly, we want everyone to know how welcoming the entire school was to our librarians. We were treated with great respect, and couldn't ask for a better audience.
We were especially touched by a young 7th grader, who stayed behind a few extra moments just to say "Thank You." He was on his way to lunch - everyone's favorite subject- yet felt it was important enough to show his appreciation. This simple moment exemplified what we saw in the SHMS student body, and it truly made our day.
Thank you, Southampton!

#SRCsignuptip
We have another great tip for you! Preregistration for Summer Reading is quick and easy - and it will help you get your coupons and bags quicker than if you sign up in branch. (The program kicks off on June 17th, and that's when we'll give out bags.)
Read Squared, our new reader database, is family friendly. Remember our previous tips - all reader accounts can be accessed through the parent login.
Just click "Add A Child Account" on your account's home page, and you'll see 2 options. 'Add a New Account' or 'Link Existing Account.'
Use the ADD option to create new accounts for your children. You'll use this most often for summer readers.
Use the LINK option if you child is already enrolled in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. You might also use this option if your middle or high school student registered for the program already. You'll need to ask him/her for their username to link accounts.
Need an account linked but don't remember the username? Give us a call or stop by one of our branches. We'll help.
Don't wait - preregister today! https://hcplonline.readsquared.com/
Did you miss Walk and Roll in Shamrock Park this week? Meet us under the pergola in the Children's Area at 11:30am on June 6th!
#SRCsignuptips
It's a great idea to preregister for our Summer Reading Challenge. We're using a new database called Read Squared to track reader progress. It's perfect for families!
Start by creating a parent account, then add your children under your account. Everyone will have a separate user name, and password - but the parent login can access them all in one place. (Convenient, right?!)
When creating your adult account, it will ask "What program do you want to sign up for?" Select: Adult - Create new Account. It will prompt you to register your children after entering your info. And voila! All accounts are linked.
We'll be offering more SRC sign up tips throughout the week.
P.S. Don't worry grown ups - you'll get to use your account for your own reading with Winter Reading!
