Happy Dewey Decimal System Day!

The numbers used to shelve nonfiction materials in our branches aren't just something our librarians randomly came up with. In fact, they are a part of the Dewey Decimal System, which is traditionally used for ilbrary classification and dates back to 1876.

Curious what all those numbers mean? Check out these pictures of Sly James the Cat to help better understand the various subject matters and where they can be found in the stacks of your local library.

TOMORROW AT THE ABINGDON LIBRARY!😎🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️🎤🎸😎

Jordan Lally and his band, Big Infinite, will be visiting the Abingdon Branch of the Harford County Public Library for two events dedicated to promoting mindfulness and other "wellness tools" to both teens and families.

First, middle and high school-age students are invited to a meditation workshop, led by Jordan Lally, that will introduce them to meditation as a strategy for dealing with stress. Registration is required and space is limited!

Following the workshop, Jordan will be joined by his Big Infinite bandmates for a family-friendly concert. Registration is recommended and this event is open to all ages.

These programs are part of Choose Civility Harford County.

Remembering author Andrew Clements who passed away last week. Over the span of his career, he created more than 80 books for young readers and he will be greatly missed among readers of all ages.

He’ll be here to talk about his new true crime book, “Stealing Wyeth,” which recounts the 1982 theft of fifteen paintings from the estate of Andrew Wyeth.
