FRIENDS OF THE BELEN HARVEY HOUSE SCHOLARSHIPS: Three Belen Harvey House interns were awarded scholarships by the Friends of the Harvey House and recognized at a Belen City Council meeting for their interest in learning the art of culinary as they work at the Fred Harvey Whistle Stop Cafe.
Lily Smith is a history and writiing student in her fourth year at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Calif. She began her internship in 2023 in association with her high school graduation requirements and has continued at the Harvey House for three years. She received $2,500.
Lynda Sanchez is a recent graduate from Valencia High School. She graduated with a 3.5 GPA and plans to attend CNM’s Culinary Arts program, specializing in baking and pastries. This is Lynda’s second year at the Harvey House. She received $1,000.
Lukas Sanchez is entering into his junior year at Belen High School. Next year, he will be starting Pro-Start to specialize in culinary arts. He has a GPA of 3.0. He received $1,000
Cat Whalen is in the process of completing her master’s degree in museum science from UCLA. She and her husband moved to New Mexico for eight weeks to work on cataloging the Harvey House Museum’s collections. (Clara Garcia | News-Bulletin photo)
