Valencia Soil & Water Conservation District The Valencia Soil & Water Conservation District is a legal subdivision of the State, similar to County Governments or School Districts.

The Valencia Soil & Water Conservation District is responsible, under state law, for conservation and sustainability of natural resources, such as soil, water, air, plants, animals, and people. VSWCD boundaries includes all of Valencia County, a small part of Socorro County in the southern portion of the District, and the Laguna and Isleta Pueblo lands in Bernalillo, Cibola, and Sandoval Counties

. VSWCD is governed by a board of seven supervisors. Five supervisors are elected by the registered voters of the District, while the remaining two are appointed by the Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

We’re at the Third Annual Socorro Community Conservation on Water at the Sabinal Community Center, sponsored by the Utton Transboundary Resources Center. We met one of the young men our District trained to be an apprentice soil health technician and saw some community members who attended our October Board meeting here!
