🚒🔥 MYTH BUSTER MONDAY 🔥🚒

MYTH: “A smoke alarm is enough — I don’t need to test it.”

BUSTED! ❌

Smoke alarms only save lives if they work! Batteries can die and alarms can fail without warning.

✔️ Test your smoke alarms once a month
✔️ Change the batteries at least once a year
✔️ Replace the entire smoke alarm every 10 years

A working smoke alarm can cut your risk of dying in a house fire in half.

Take 2 minutes today to push the test button — it could save your life.

Strong and gusty winds combined with low relative humidity will lead to conditions which may make fires unpredictable and difficult to control on Wednesday afternoon. Use caution with open flames and when discarding ci******es. Burning by anyone but trained professionals is not recommended.

Please don’t burn today there’s a red flag warning for today

Southwesterly winds and low humidity will lead to Elevated Fire Danger along/south of I-70 and along/west of the Mississippi River this afternoon. With potentially erratic fire behavior, it is best to leave burning to the professionals today.

For immediate release:

On March 22, 2026, at approximately 3:18 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 10600 State Highway DD.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a tiny home fully engulfed in flames, with the fire having spread to a nearby mobile home. Both structures were fully involved at the time of arrival.

Fire crews worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further spread to surrounding properties. Due to the coordinated efforts of responding agencies, the fire was successfully contained to the affected structures.

All occupants were able to safely evacuate prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. No injuries were reported.

We would like to extend our appreciation to Medic 3 for providing on-scene rehabilitation support, as well as to the neighboring fire departments who assisted in suppression efforts and helped ensure the fire was contained.

Thank you to the following departments and all the men & women who showed up from each.

Washington County Ambulance District, Bismarck Fire Protection District, Caledonia fire protection district, Leadwood Fire Protection District, Irondale Fire Protection District, Potosi Fire Protection District, Big River Fire Protection District, Wolf Creek Fire Protection District, Park Hills Fire Department 3700, Doe Run Fire Protection District , Pilot K**b Fire Protection District, DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District, De Soto Fire Department , Steelville fire protection district, Hillsboro Fire Department

⚠️ Water Over Roadways Reported in the Area ⚠️

There are several reports of water over roadways throughout the county. Please use extra caution when traveling, as conditions can change quickly — especially in low-lying areas, near creeks and at rural crossings.

🚫 Please do NOT attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
Just a few inches of moving water can cause you to lose control of your vehicle, and deeper water can stall vehicles or sweep them off the roadway.

• Slow down and stay alert
• Use alternate routes if you encounter water over the roadway
• Never drive around barricades or warning signs

03/04/2026

Severe storms are possible from roughly 12 pm to 5 pm, with best chances along and south of I-44. Not all storms will be severe, but a few may be capable of damaging wind, large hail, brief tornadoes, and locally heavy rain. Make sure to have multiple ways of receiving warnings, and know your safe place and know how to get there quickly!

☀️ Warmer Weather Reminder from Your Fire Department

As the weather starts getting nicer, many people are thinking about cleaning up their property or burning brush. Please remember:

🔥 Just because the temperature feels good doesn’t mean conditions are safe for burning.
Wind, humidity, and dry vegetation can turn a small fire into a fast-moving brush fire in minutes.

Before you burn:
✔️ Check local burn conditions and whether burning is currently allowed.
✔️ Avoid burning on windy days.
✔️ Keep water and tools nearby to control the fire.
✔️ Never leave a fire unattended.
✔️ Completely extinguish all embers before walking away.

Your caution helps protect your home, your neighbors, and our firefighters.
Stay safe and enjoy the nice weather! ☀️🚒
