โ€œIt's great because you know we see a lot of people on a bad day. It's nice to be out in this setting you know in this community atmosphere and really be able to interact with people and have a good time and let our community members see who we are when we're not having to tackle serious calls or investigations," said Belgrade Police Chief Dustin Lensing.

The Belgrade Police Department is hosting the city's first-ever National Night Out next week. The event will bring together first responders, local organization

Earlier this year, the City of Belgrade launched a new Forestry Program to help care for and plan for the trees that make our community a great place to live. One of the program's first projects is taking inventory of the City's street and park trees, documenting what kind of trees we do have and how they're doing.

We've heard a few rumors about what this work means, so we wanted to clear things up.

Our Forester is currently gathering basic information about trees on City property, including their species, size, condition, location, and maintenance needs. Street and boulevard trees in the public right-of-way are City property, just like streets, sidewalks, and other public infrastructure.

Here's what this inventory project is NOT:

โžก๏ธ It is not a tree removal project. The purpose of the inventory is to collect information about the City's trees. That information will help guide future maintenance and, when necessary, decisions about trees that may need additional attention for safety or health reasons.
โžก๏ธ It is not an inventory of trees on private property.
โžก๏ธ It is not targeting any particular neighborhood.

If you've noticed our Forester spending a lot of time in one area, that's simply because he's working one street at a time.

The goal of the inventory is simple: understand what we have today so we can take better care of it tomorrow. The information collected will help us plan maintenance, plant the right trees in the right places, improve the health and diversity of our tree canopy, and make informed decisions as Belgrade grows.

As the project continues, we also plan to make the tree inventory available as an interactive map on the City's website so everyone can explore and learn more about Belgrade's urban forest.
