Belgrade Police detectives have determined that a suspicious device discovered during the ex*****on of an arrest warrant on Mantle Drive on June 2 was not explosive in nature.

On Tuesday, June 2 at approximately 7 p.m., deputies with the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office executed a Belgrade City arrest warrant in the 600 block of Mantle Drive in Belgrade.

Following the arrest, deputies conducted a search of the residence and discovered electrical components, batteries, and other materials wired together in a manner that raised concerns about a potential explosive device. Deputies immediately notified Belgrade Police officers of their findings.

Out of an abundance of caution, personnel from both agencies evacuated nearby residents and established a safety perimeter around the residence. During the subsequent investigation, interviews revealed that the suspect had previously made comments related to bombs.

Belgrade Police detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and conducted a thorough examination of the suspected device. Investigators ultimately determined that the device was not live and did not pose an explosive threat.

The suspect remains in custody, and there is no danger to the public.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the affected residents as this situation was safely resolved. We also extend our gratitude to our partners at the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, Central Valley Fire District, the City of Belgrade Montana Public Works Department, Gallatin County Emergency Management, and Gallatin Mobile Crisis for their assistance and support.

As summer gets underway, the City of Belgrade reminds residents to keep weeds, tall grass, and vegetation maintained to help keep neighborhoods safe, clean, and looking their best.

Some reminders:

🏑 Property owners and tenants are responsible for keeping vegetation under control.
πŸ›£οΈ This includes sidewalks, alleys, streets, and boulevards next to the property.
πŸ›‘ Keep visibility clear around stop signs, fire hydrants, and utility poles.
πŸ”₯ Overgrown vegetation can create fire hazards, attract pests, and reduce visibility.
πŸͺ§ If vegetation becomes excessively overgrown, the city may issue a cleanup notice.
πŸ’΅ If not addressed, the city may remove the vegetation and charge the cost to the property owner.
