Re: Open letter to the Law Enforcement Community

To The Law Enforcement Community:
We are the citizens that you will most likely never meet! We are the law abiding citizens who actually honor and respect what you do, so barring any unforeseen tragedy in our life where you would be called in or barring any human error on our part where we exceed a speed limit or push our luck at a yellow light etc., you will most likely never meet us!

We quietly go about our day with the comfort of knowing that law and order is in place because Y-O-U have answered your calling in life! We are able to enjoy our freedoms because
Y-O-U nobly step out each and every day putting your own life on the line to ensure the safety of every day citizens that you will most likely never even meet!

What we want you to know is that we respect you … we support you … we appreciate you … we care about you … we need you … we are here for you!

Y-O-U are important … Y-O-U matter … Y-O-U are amazing!

We are standing with you … walking alongside you … circling around you … creating The Blue Hedge!

Respectfully,
The Blue Hedge

In 2019 the Bellaire Police Department partnered with the Bellaire Culture and Arts Board to showcase the work of local artists by bringing art into public spaces. A space in the police department lobby was designated as an art space with the goal of changing pieces approximately every six weeks to highlight a different artist, style, or genre.

The department is pleased to expand the promotion of local art and artist by including in the rotation a piece from the Islamic Art Society! This latest work is by Hina Chaudhry and entitled, "Bismillah," (Arabic: in the name of God). This work is on loan from the artist through mid-October. "I'm excited for the opportunity to display works that highlight the diversity not only of Bellaire but also of the City of Houston," said Chief Onesimo Lopez. "I invite the community to stop by and check it out!"

We continue to be amazed and humbled by the generosity of our Bellaire residents! At today's Coffee with a Cop event Becky Phillips donated six gift cards to The '401 for our staff! Ms. Phillips represents a group of Bellaire residents that donates funds to be used to provide meals and gift cards to the department as a way of just saying, "Thanks!" Thank you Becky and everyone that made these donations possible!

We held a raffle and the winners of the gift cards were: TCO Mary Bledsoe, TCO Brandy Jenkins, Officer Chris Barber, Officer Alex Carranza, Lt. Darrell Hollie, and Officer Randy Bellard!

How do you find the words to properly honor 45 years of service and dedication to a community? Especially for a Chief of Police who led a department through so many changes and difficult times? How do you reflect a community's love for that Chief? I'm no poet, so we'll let these words speak for themselves and for Chief Holloway's leadership.

"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." - Coretta Scott King

Chief Holloway, thank you for guiding the department that protects this community. Thank you for grace, kindness, and all the laughs. You will be missed.

Members of Bellaire HS Alumni Class of '59 recently presented BPD with a plaque honoring Mr. Mike Loeb. Mike was a BHS graduate, resident, and volunteer who devoted 15 years of service to the citizens and employees of the City of Bellaire. He assisted with the technology needs of the department and saw us through many transitions. His wife, son, daughter, family, and fellow BHS graduates were on hand as Ms. Bettie Byrd presented the plaque to Chief Holloway.

We appreciate Mike for all his knowledge, experience, and dedication, and we appreciate the Loeb family sharing Mike with us for all these years.
