Imagine- Kissing a loved one goodbye as they make a quick run to the store, shaking hands with a neighbor at the end of a barbeque, sending your child to school or your family member to work- and having them never return home to be seen again. Today we bring awareness to that as February 3rd is NATIONAL MISSING PERSONS DAY.

That scenario is the reality for so many people as over 600,000 individuals go missing every year. Someone's child, someone's parent, neighbor or friend are reported missing and may never be found again. 600,000 people mysteriously and with no explanation disappear. In the state of Texas there are over 1,525 active missing persons cases and just in HARRIS County alone there are 228 active missing persons cases. This is happening in our backyards and our neighborhoods.

It is so important to always check in with loved ones. Educate children about stranger danger and know where your adult friends might be if not at home. Learn your loved ones "hangout" spots, learn where they go to find peace and quiet, know where they may go and who they might seek shelter from.

Fortunately, many missing individuals are found but more than tens of thousands of individuals remain missing and their family and friends go without answers.

Protect your loved ones. Check in with each other. And as always BE KIND.

If you have any information on a mission individual or need to report someone you know to be missing call the Bellaire Police Department at 713-668-0487 or go to https://www.namus.gov/ to learn more and to look up or report a missing person.

Click or share the hashtag #NationalMissingPersonsDay to see missing persons around the country and do your part to raise awareness to this silent national disaster.

Today is the official retirement of Records Technician, Kathy Holbrook. Kathy has been with the Bellaire Police Department for 16 years. She was a witty and good humored person who became an important part of the Bellaire family during the time she spent with us.

Though she has special BPD memories to hold onto, Kathy is excited about her future. She will be moving to an activity filled community where she hopes to make new friends and find her place. We hope for much success and happiness on her new path. She will be missed.

We won't let the challenges of Covid-19 stop our annual Shop with a Cop program! Every year students from local schools are nominated by their teachers and peers for their helping attitudes and can-do spirit. These students are normally accompanied by a Bellaire Officer who acts as personal shopper at a local business. This year, we brought students to the station and presented them with gifts baskets and gift certificates to help them this holiday season and to show our appreciation for their service to their communities!

Many thanks to Bellaire / SW Houston Rotary Club for continuing our annual tradition!

This marks the Houston Police Department's 7th homicide in a span of 24 hours.

Another great job by an alert citizen! Today Officers were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle at a construction site that appeared to have committed a burglary. Officers located the vehicle with the temporary license plate as they were attempting a second burglary at another job site. After a foot chase with one suspect, a total of four were arrested. Thanks to West U Police for helping and our great residents for reporting suspicious activity!

Not understanding why you would hire a former officer, Timothy Loehmann, that had no problem killing a 12 yo child. Sad.
