Imagine- Kissing a loved one goodbye as they make a quick run to the store, shaking hands with a neighbor at the end of a barbeque, sending your child to school or your family member to work- and having them never return home to be seen again. Today we bring awareness to that as February 3rd is NATIONAL MISSING PERSONS DAY.
That scenario is the reality for so many people as over 600,000 individuals go missing every year. Someone's child, someone's parent, neighbor or friend are reported missing and may never be found again. 600,000 people mysteriously and with no explanation disappear. In the state of Texas there are over 1,525 active missing persons cases and just in HARRIS County alone there are 228 active missing persons cases. This is happening in our backyards and our neighborhoods.
It is so important to always check in with loved ones. Educate children about stranger danger and know where your adult friends might be if not at home. Learn your loved ones "hangout" spots, learn where they go to find peace and quiet, know where they may go and who they might seek shelter from.
Fortunately, many missing individuals are found but more than tens of thousands of individuals remain missing and their family and friends go without answers.
Protect your loved ones. Check in with each other. And as always BE KIND.
If you have any information on a mission individual or need to report someone you know to be missing call the Bellaire Police Department at 713-668-0487 or go to https://www.namus.gov/ to learn more and to look up or report a missing person.
