Stories like Lt. Col. (Dr.) Charles Miller are what is all about - world-class physicians using their skills to keep our fighting force in the fight. As chief of neurosurgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, he helped a US Marine with two rare, life-threatening conditions stay in uniform and keep serving.
If you’re a future physician or healthcare professional who wants your work to directly impact readiness and the lives of those who serve, message us to learn more about career paths in Army Medicine.

🩺 Lt. Col. (Dr.) Charles Miller knows that every patient has a story and every decision he makes has the power to change the course of a life.

As chief of neurosurgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Miller recently cared for a U.S. Marine facing two extraordinarily rare and life-threatening conditions simultaneously. Rather than seeing an impossible case, he saw a Marine determined to keep serving and worked tirelessly to make that possible.

Through exceptional skill, compassion, and a commitment to team-based care, Miller helped transform uncertainty into hope, giving his patient the confidence and clinical foundation to remain in uniform.

“The role of the military neurosurgeon is to … provide world-class care to those who serve and sacrifice themselves for our country,” Miller said. “It is an honor to take care of our fighting force.”
