A new chapter for education and workforce development in Plaquemines Parish is officially underway!

We proudly celebrated the opening of the new Nunez Community College facility in Belle Chasse. This partnership between Nunez Community College and the Plaquemines Parish School Board will give our students access to hands-on training in welding and electrical work. This will help them develop industry-leading skills and prepare for rewarding careers. The best part? It is all close to home.

Thank you to everyone who helped turn this vision into a reality. Together, we are investing in our community, expanding opportunities for our students, and building a brighter future for Plaquemines Parish.💙

𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: Fire Extinguished — BCHS Students Returning to Class

The Fire Chief has confirmed that the delivery truck fire has been fully extinguished and the area is safe. All BCHS students and staff remained safe throughout the incident, and students are now returning to their classrooms to resume the school day.

We appreciate the quick response of our Fire Department and school staff, as well as the patience and cooperation of our families.

Parents and Guardians of BCHS Students,

We want to make you aware of an incident currently occurring on the BCHS campus. A contractor’s refrigerated delivery truck caught fire while on school property. The Fire Department has been contacted and is responding.

All students and staff have been safely evacuated from the building and are accounted for. As a precaution, please do not come to the school at this time, as we need to keep the area clear for emergency personnel.

Student and staff safety remains our highest priority. We will provide another update as soon as additional information is available.

🚸 SCHOOL ZONE SAFETY REMINDER 🚸

As we travel throughout Plaquemines Parish, please remember to slow down and stay alert near our schools.

School zone lights typically begin flashing 30 minutes before school starts and remain active until 30 minutes after arrival. They also activate 30 minutes before dismissal and remain on until 30 minutes afterward.

Lights may also flash outside of these regular times for school activities, special events or other circumstances. Whenever the lights are flashing, please follow the posted school zone speed limit.

🏫 Regular School Hours:

• Belle Chasse Primary & Belle Chasse Elementary: 8:15 a.m.–3:15 p.m.
• Belle Chasse Middle: 6:55 a.m.–2:26 p.m.
• Belle Chasse High: 7:15 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
• Boothville-Venice Elementary: 8:10 a.m.–3:10 p.m.
• South Plaquemines Elementary: 8:10 a.m.–3:15 p.m.
• South Plaquemines High: 7:20 a.m.–2:35 p.m.
• Phoenix High: 7:35 a.m.–2:45 p.m.
• Plaquemines Parish Learning Center: 7:00 a.m.–2:45 p.m.

Please slow down, put away distractions and watch carefully for students, buses and crossing traffic. A few extra moments can help keep our students safe! 🚌💛

🏫 Learning Today. Building for Tomorrow.

This month members of the Plaquemines Parish School Board and district leadership hit the road to gather ideas and inspiration for the future of Belle Chasse Middle School and High School!

Our team visited Brusly High School in West Baton Rouge Parish and Prairieville High School in Ascension Parish, touring both campuses and learning more about their designs, learning spaces, technology, student amenities and overall functionality.

Visits like these give our leaders an opportunity to see firsthand what works, ask questions and bring new ideas back home.

We’re thinking about the kind of spaces our students and educators will need for decades to come.

A big thank you to our friends in West Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes for welcoming us and sharing their campuses with our team!

Today, some of our teachers participated in S.P.I.R.E. training to strengthen the support they provide to students who struggle with reading or dyslexia.

S.P.I.R.E. (Specialized Program Individualizing Reading Excellence) is an intensive, structured literacy intervention that uses explicit, teacher-led lessons and a multisensory approach to help students build essential reading skills.

Once trained, our educators will be able to implement this intervention with their students. This will provide targeted instruction tailored to their individual needs. We’re proud of our teachers for continuing to learn, grow, and ensure every student has the tools they need to succeed! 📖✨
