⚜️ A great time at the Louisiana Travel Association Summit!

Last week, we had the opportunity to connect with tourism professionals and partners from across Louisiana, exchange ideas, and learn more about what’s happening in tourism throughout our state.

We’re excited to bring those connections and ideas back to Plaquemines Parish as we continue showcasing everything our community has to offer!

Advocating for Plaquemines Parish

Plaquemines Parish President W. Keith Hinkley met today with Governor Landry’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Brett Robinson, alongside St. Bernard Parish President Louis Pomes, to champion local priorities directly with state leadership.

President Hinkley continues to work aggressively to ensure that critical Plaquemines needs, such as coastal restoration, hurricane protection, and vital infrastructure upgrades, stay top of mind in Baton Rouge. Partnering with neighboring parishes and state officials strengthens our voice as we keep building a safer, stronger Plaquemines Parish.

📍 We're now in Phase 2 of the Plaquemines Parish Comprehensive Master Plan.

A Comprehensive Master Plan is a shared roadmap for the future of Plaquemines Parish. Shaped by input from residents, stakeholders, and local leaders, the planning process helps identify community priorities and set a clear direction for the Parish.

During Phase 2 (approximately July–December 2026), the focus is on community engagement in support of the Plan Vision & Goals. This phase includes:

✔️ Intensive Outreach & Engagement through community meetings, focus groups, online surveys, local events, and engagement with community organizations.

✔️ Plan Visioning by combining data collection with community engagement to develop the Plan's vision statement and main pillars.

✔️ Development of Goals & Objectives by drafting goals and objectives that align with the Plan's vision and engaging with the community to help prioritize them.

The Comprehensive Master Plan provides practical, community-driven direction for decisions that affect residents, businesses, and future generations.

Ray's journey to the end of the Mississippi River is about so much more than the miles.

After being injured in an airstrike while serving overseas, Army veteran Ray was told he would likely never walk again. Through determination and physical therapy, he proved otherwise. What began as learning to walk again became a passion that has taken him across trails throughout the United States and abroad.

His latest challenge was his biggest yet, walking the entire length of the Mississippi River from Minnesota to Venice, Louisiana, a remarkable journey of approximately 2,500 miles completed in 77 days.

When asked why he walks, Ray's answer says it all:

"I walk for those who can't."

Plaquemines Parish was honored to welcome Ray as he completed this incredible journey in Venice. We extend our sincere thanks to Mark Cognevich District 9 Councilman for presenting Ray with a commemorative gift on behalf of Plaquemines Parish. Thank you as well to Sheena Ojeda for joining us in welcoming Ray, and to Team Rubicon USA for supporting him throughout his journey and helping create such a warm Louisiana welcome at the finish line.

Congratulations, Ray, on an extraordinary accomplishment. Thank you for your service, your resilience, and for inspiring us all.
