π District-Wide School Meal & Wellness Policy Reminder π
As we get settled into the school year, we wanted to share a quick reminder about our District Wellness Policy and what students at each grade level can purchase during meal service.
π Grades Kβ4
During breakfast and lunch service, a la carte items are not sold to Kβ4 students, with the exception of milk. Students wishing to purchase an extra entrΓ©e must first purchase a reimbursable student meal.
π₯ͺ Grades 5β8
Students in grades 5β8 must first purchase a reimbursable meal before purchasing any a la carte items, with the exception of milk. Once they have received their reimbursable meal, they may return to purchase additional available items, such as juice, water, chips, cookies, and other Smart Snack items.
π Grades 9β12
High school students have access to a la carte options during meal service and are not subject to the same requirement outlined in the Wellness Policy for grades 5β8.
π₯ A few additional reminders:
β’ Our school meals participate in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs and meet established nutrition requirements.
β’ Students have access to unlimited fruit and vegetable options as part of their reimbursable meal.
β’ Access to free drinking water is not dependent upon purchasing a school meal.
We know procedures can look different between our elementary, middle school, and high school buildings. We hope this helps clarify what is available to students at each grade level and why some procedures may differ.
Thank you for helping us support healthy choices and follow our District Wellness Policy! ππ§
The Wellness Policy can be found on the District Website on the Food Service Page.
