🔔 On behalf of the School Board and the entire District, we hope you safe and your family are safe and did not suffer any major damage as a result of Hurricane Nicole.

Damage assessments on our 180 campuses are in the final stages. We are pleased to report that the District did not sustain any significant damage. Minor repairs and cleanup are expected to be completed today. Considering the overall positive evaluation of our infrastructure and the current track of the storm continuing to move away from South Florida, Superintendent Mike Burke has made the decision to reopen schools and District offices on Friday, November 11, 2022.

It’s also important to note that the two days the District was closed this week will not need to be made up later in the year.

All students and staff should report to their respective schools and offices on November 11, as scheduled. District student aftercare programs will also resume normal operations, and so will after-school extracurricular activities. All middle and high school athletic practices and conditioning sessions will also resume on November11.

However, please note that competition for athletics at both levels will not resume until Monday, November 14. You will find additional information on the District’s designated Storm Update webpage.
Although schools and District offices were closed Wednesday and Thursday, much work continued behind the scenes. The District opened seven school-based shelters that welcomed nearly 450 people who evacuated as the storm approached. Food Service workers served nearly 2,000 meals to our guests.

School District Police worked throughout the storm, ensuring safety and security on all 180 District campuses. Throughout the day today, Facilities Departments, school principals, and support staff assessed campus damage and ensured that cleanup and repairs will be completed in time to safely welcome back our students and staff tomorrow.

We also want to take a moment to extend our gratitude to the entire staff for the role that they played in preparing our campuses and all District offices during the storm, the assessment and cleanup of our entire infrastructure post-storm, and the communications that occurred throughout the process to ensure that all staff, students, parents, and the community remained informed.

Finally, tomorrow our nation celebrates Veterans Day. Ceremonies paying tribute to all veterans, including those who are members of District staff, will take place on several campuses and at District Headquarters. The District’s Mission is to educate, affirm, and inspire each student. Our veterans help fulfill our mission, through their service, and the example they set for us all.

Parents, guardians, and Team Palm Beach thank you for your support of the School District of Palm Beach County. Please stay safe and remain informed.

Michael J. Burke, Superintendent
