🚔 BIPD Assists FHP in Hit-and-Run Investigation

On October 27, 2026, the Belle Isle Police Department received a call regarding a wrong way driver traveling on Hoffner Avenue.

Officer Rodriguez, who was in the area of Hoffner Avenue and Conway Road, located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop.

During the stop, he observed significant front-end damage to the vehicle. After speaking with the driver and confirming information through dispatch, it was determined that the vehicle matched the description of one involved in a hit-and-run crash being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) in the surrounding area.

FHP troopers responded to the scene and took the driver into custody.

Great work by BIPD and the Florida Highway Patrol for their coordinated efforts in this investigation.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY ALERT | KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Halloween is almost here, and the Belle Isle Police Department reminds parents and guardians to take a few minutes to plan a safe trick-or-treating experience.

Before heading out, know who's in your neighborhood.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) provides a free, public Sexual Offender and Predator Registry that allows residents to search for registered offenders and predators in their area.
How to check your neighborhood:

1) Visit the FDLE Sexual Offender and Predator Registry:

2)Select Neighborhood Search.
3)Enter your address, city, or ZIP code and select a search radius.
4)Review the available information and map when planning your family's Halloween route.

Additional Halloween Safety Reminders:
-Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
-Remind children never to enter a stranger's home or vehicle.
-Stay in well-lit areas and travel in groups.
-Remain alert and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

The registry is a valuable awareness tool, but it is not a substitute for adult supervision or other safety precautions.
A little preparation can help make Halloween safer for everyone.

🚨ENVIRONMENTAL/LAKE CONWAY ALERT🚨

*Advisory from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection

Recent lab results from a sample collected on the Willoughby Canal indicate the presence of algae toxins in the water column. As a result, the Willoughby Canal will be closely monitored by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) staff. The FDEP will collect follow-up samples for analysis at a future date (possibly 1-3 weeks) determined by the FDEP for the Willoughby Canal and will provide updates on any possible detection of algae toxins as reported on the FDEP Algal Bloom Reporting dashboard

Please refrain from irrigating or recreating in the canal, including swimming, fishing, and boating until further notice.
