Reminder - Developmental Screenings are coming up on October 8th!

Are you wondering if your child is meeting their developmental milestones? A free developmental screening can help provide information about your child’s development and connect your family with resources if needed.

The screening is available for children birth through Pre-K who are not currently enrolled on an IEP or receiving Early Intervention services.

This free screening is offered through the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities and CORS Head Start.

🌈 Growing Beyond Discovery: Gabby 🌈

We are excited to feature Gabby in our Growing Beyond Discovery alumni series!

Gabby attended Discovery Center in 2018, where Mrs. Jill, Mrs. Darlene and Mrs. Emily helped spark her love of learning. She is now in 7th grade, where she continues to excel academically and consistently earns Merit Roll honors.

Gabby loves reading, plays trumpet in the school band and was recently honored with the Outstanding Musician Award. She also loves cheerleading and proudly helped her team earn a 1st Place Championship this past year!

Gabby has a heart of gold and enjoys giving back by volunteering with local nursing homes, where she has formed special friendships with residents. She also loves her family, swimming, the outdoors, shark documentaries and marine life. She recently became a big sister to Hadley and is already doing a wonderful job!

Gabby is also working toward starting her own small business, GRS Homestead Goods, to help save for college. Her dream is to one day become a marine biologist and live on the coast.

Gabby’s mom shared that Discovery Center helped her learn how to make friends, share, communicate, work as a team and feel confident in the classroom—little lessons that became big parts of who she is today.

The Logan County Braves had plenty to celebrate this season! The Traditional Team brought home 3rd place at the Southwest Regional Tournament! 🥉

Five of our skills athletes also earned medals at the recent State Skills Competition:

🥇 Casey – Gold
🥈 Tyler & Matt – Silver
🥉 Joe & Bob – Bronze

Congratulations to all of the Braves softball athletes on an amazing season! We are so proud of the hard work, dedication and sportsmanship you showed throughout the season. Way to go, Braves!

LCBDD Superintendent Krista Oldiges recently met with a group of local advocates to share information and answer questions about the upcoming LCBDD levy on the November 3 ballot.

We appreciate these advocates for taking the time to learn more about the levy and how its outcome may impact services and supports for people with developmental disabilities in Logan County.

The 2026 Special Olympics Discovery Riders Equestrian Show was recently held, giving 10 Logan County Braves athletes the opportunity to show off the skills they developed throughout the season! Both new and veteran riders participated, proudly demonstrating their hard work and dedication.

A very special thank-you to the Bellefontaine Moose 2563 & WOTM 2228 for sponsoring our Equestrian Program this year. Their generous support made it possible for our athletes to train and participate with Discovery Riders. We truly appreciate their commitment to providing this wonderful opportunity.

We would also like to thank the incredible trainers and staff at Discovery Riders for the time, patience and care they give the athletes throughout the season. And, of course, a special thank-you to the beautiful horses who make this experience so special and provide so much comfort to everyone involved.

Several individuals from our Arts & Crafts Class have been working to knot quilts recently and had the opportunity to arrange their finished quilts on the pews at First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine. The completed quilts will be distributed locally and around the world through Lutheran World Relief, providing warmth and comfort to people in need.

We are thankful to be a part of such a meaningful project and giving back to others in such a special way!

On Nov. 3, Logan County voters will consider a temporary, five-year, 2-mill levy for the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities (LCBDD). The levy would provide local funding for services and support for more than 700 people with developmental disabilities and their families, from birth through adulthood.

Budget cuts were made prior to going on the ballot in May and following a defeat of that levy, the Board made an additional $1.4 million in budget cuts. The Board developed a Service Reduction Plan outlining additional reductions if the November levy is not approved. Those reductions include reducing or eliminating:

❌ Discovery Center Preschool
❌ Special Olympics
❌ Family Support Services
❌ Early Intervention
