âš˝ Benjamin Logan Girls Soccer Wraps Up Strong Regular Season

The Benjamin Logan varsity girls soccer team concluded its regular season with a 5-0 loss at Springfield Shawnee.

The Raiders finished tied with Shawnee for first place in CBC Mad River Division points. With head-to-head results determining the tiebreaker, Benjamin Logan finishes second in the division with an impressive 12-3-2 overall record.

Head Coach Hughes reflected on the team’s season:

“I know it wasn’t the result we were looking for tonight, but we are extremely proud of the regular season we have been able to put together. 12-3-2 is an amazing regular season, but we aren’t done yet.”

The Raiders now turn their attention to postseason play!

📦 Benjamin Logan FFA Members Participate in Cardboard City

Twenty-nine Benjamin Logan High School FFA members recently participated in Cardboard City, an overnight activity focused on building awareness, encouraging empathy, and serving others.

Students spent the chilly evening outdoors in cardboard shelters, taking time away from their usual routines to connect with one another and reflect on the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. While the experience cannot fully represent the realities of homelessness, it provided an opportunity for meaningful conversations about compassion, understanding, and community needs.

As part of the activity, students also collected donations for a local food pantry to help support individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Thank you to the FFA members and those who supported this experience. Their efforts serve as a reminder of the importance of being mindful of others and finding ways to care for our neighbors.

🌱 Small Hands, Big Impact! 🌷

The purple martins have headed south on their 3,000-mile migration, and Benjamin Logan's Environmental Science Club has been busy preparing for the changing seasons!

Yesterday, students in grades 4–7 rolled up their sleeves for an afternoon of hands-on environmental stewardship. After cleaning and storing the purple martins' birdhouses until next March, students turned their attention to the district's raised garden beds and pollinator plots.

🌷 Planted tulip bulbs for spring blooms

🌱 Cleared garden beds, added compost, and planted oats as a cover crop

🦋 Collected milkweed pods to save seeds for future planting and support pollinators

Under the guidance of Mr. Ryan Kerns, Mr. Bruce Smith, Mr. Bob Stoll (Land Trust), and Mrs. Ashley Zvansky (parent volunteer), these young environmentalists accomplished a great deal in just one afternoon!

The Environmental Science Club, co-sponsored by Benjamin Logan Local Schools and the Logan County Land Trust, gives students opportunities to learn about conservation while caring for the natural spaces around their school.

A little work this fall will make a big difference next spring! 🌼

âš˝ Benjamin Logan Boys Soccer Earns CBC Mad River Championship!

Congratulations to the Benjamin Logan varsity boys soccer team on securing the outright CBC Mad River Division Championship with a 1-0 victory over Springfield Shawnee!

Freshman Santiago Solano scored the game-winning goal just 14 minutes into the match, assisted by his brother, Ben Solano. Goalkeeper Carter Phillips and the Raider defense preserved the shutout.

After beginning league play with an 0-3-1 record, the Raiders showed tremendous perseverance, winning their final six conference games, including five consecutive shutouts.

Head Coach Hughes shared his appreciation for the team’s effort and determination:

“I’m just really proud of what these guys were able to accomplish tonight and wrap up the regular season like this. They just found a way to win every time out and that is what is special about this team.”

The Raiders finish the regular season with a 10-4-3 overall record.

Fresh salads topped with homemade herb ranch dressing!

Students put their culinary skills to work preparing ranch dressing from scratch using fresh herbs, then enjoyed the results with colorful salads.

From measuring ingredients and following recipes to mixing, preparing, and taste-testing, it was a delicious way to practice practical kitchen skills!

Career Pathways Spotlight at BLHS!

Benjamin Logan High School welcomed Rebekah Smith, an owner and partner at GBQ, a Columbus-based accounting firm, and co-owner of Indian Lake Brewing Company, as today’s Career Pathways guest speaker!

Rebekah shared her career journey, from building a successful career in accounting to following her dream of owning a brewery. After making Indian Lake her home in 2021, she helped open Indian Lake Brewing Company in 2023, combining her entrepreneurial interests with a passion for supporting the local community.

In addition to her business ventures, Rebekah serves as Chair of the Logan County Visitors Bureau and as a member of Russell Point Village Council.

Her story offered students a valuable perspective on entrepreneurship, career opportunities, and how professional skills and personal interests can lead to unexpected possibilities.

Thank you, Rebekah, for sharing your experiences and taking time to inspire Benjamin Logan students!

Benjamin Logan Local Schools will be transitioning to a new phone system on Thursday, October 15. Beginning at approximately 10:00 a.m., district phone lines will be temporarily unavailable and could remain out of service through the end of the day.

October 15 is Parent/Teacher Conference Day, with conferences scheduled from 8:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.

If you need to contact one of our schools or district offices while phone service is unavailable, please use email or ParentSquare.

🍂 Outdoor Learning at the Benjamin Logan Land Lab! 🌳
Mrs. Newland’s and Mr. Smith’s fourth-grade students enjoyed the beautiful fall weather yesterday with a visit to the Benjamin Logan Land Lab, putting their scientific observation and communication skills into practice!

Students explored their natural surroundings, examined leaves, insects, flowers, and acorns, and even measured the circumference of trees. They recorded their discoveries through writing and drawings in nature journals they will continue using throughout the school year.

With its wetlands, prairie, and woodlands, the Land Lab is a special part of the Benjamin Logan School District, providing students with opportunities to explore nature and experience science firsthand, right on campus!
