We have a duty to oppose hateful and destructive behavior, especially when it comes from a fellow elected official. Rep. Bernstine’s misconduct is exactly the opposite of how we should strive to be in service to all Pennsylvanians.

Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, I am sorry you have to deal with this. We are with you, my friend.

STATE COLLEGE — As workers head into their 15th bargaining session with Mount Nittany, over 2,700 patients, students, parents, and community members signed an open letter calling on the Mount Nittany Board to intervene and help settle a fair contract. With mounting concerns, community members are holding a town hall on Thursday night to call on hospital executives to invest in the workforce, safety, and community care first.

“I’ve only become more confused and frustrated the longer a contract isn’t reached,” said Robert Zeigler, a Centre County resident for 22 years and member of Central PA United. “It doesn’t sit right with me that the top executives at Mount Nittany are making decisions that invest big in buildings but not in the workforce. Mount Nittany doesn’t pay taxes as an organization that serves the community, so I have serious questions for the Mount Nittany Board as a tax-paying community member about why they are comfortable to sit on $96 million in profits and not find room in the budget to provide a cost-of-living adjustment increase.

I think the people paid and entrusted to steward the long-term success of our community’s hospital should actually be really eager to invest in all of the workers who make five-stars happen every year. State-of-the-art facilities are great, but they don’t take care of patients – the workers do.”
