Rebersburg PA – 1936 – Post 1 – Diary of Harry Ziegler (1893-1989)…
In 1936, Harry Ziegler will turn 43 years old. He is the son of William Ziegler and Minerva Zimmerman Ziegler. On June 28, 1919, Harry was elected to teach Rebersburg Grammar School in Rebersburg. In 1910, he married Alpha Maude Smull. Children are Clarence “Paul” born in 1911; Ruth Eleanor born in 1912; and Sarah Josephine born in 1920. In 1922. Harry’s family moved into a house at 155 East Main Street. The same year, Rebersburg received electricity. His parents live at 167 E. Main Street (later the home of Malcolm & Betty Yearick). Charles C. Smulll, Alpha’s parents lived at 155 Smullton Road (later the Aggie Wilcox farm.)

January 1, 1936 - Wednesday. A real fine winter day - ground was covered with snow. In school. At Stanley's for a goose supper. To annual Water Co. settlement in local Bank Building in evening. Ruth went to State College to help care for sick child of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Lee.
January 2, 1936 - Thursday. In school.
January 3, 1936 - Friday. In school. To I.O.O.F. The Centre County Past Grands' Association met in our Hall after Lodge - 38 members and visitors present.
January 4, 1936 - Saturday. To Senior Class play in I.O.O.F. Hall.
January 5, 1936 - Sunday. To S. S. and first Week of Prayer Services in Lutheran Church in evening - sermon by Rev. Kamble. Ruth returned home from State College.
January 6, 1936 - Monday. In school. To Week of Prayer Services in Lutheran Church - sermon by Rev. Arthur Miller.
January 7, 1936 - Tuesday. In school. To Week of Prayer Services in Evangelical Church - sermon by Rev. Weaver.
January 8, 1936 - Wednesday. In school. Uncle Grant Stanley died at his home at 6:00 p.m. after a lingering illness.

January 10, 1936 - Friday. In school. To Week of Prayer Services in Reformed Church - sermon by Rev. Kamble. Bot. of H. S. Smull 1 qr. beef, 63 # @ 16 cents for $10.00.
January 11, 1936 - Saturday. To Uncle Grant Stanley's funeral at Nisbet at 1:00 p.m. - burial in Loganton Cemetery. High School play repeated in I.O.O.F. Hall this evening.

January 13, 1936 - Monday. In school. To the first service of a Revival Series. James Kling of Oak Hall was buried today. (James Ziegler Kling (1860-1936)).

January 18, 1936 - Saturday. To services. Commonwealth (informer N. R. “Buss” Bierly) vs. M. R. (Miff) Moyer case called before Judge Fleming in his Chambers - Defendant plead guilty - sentenced to pay costs and placed on probation for one year.
January 19, 1936 - Sunday. To S. S. - 27 present. No services in evening.
January 20, 1936 - Monday. Fair, but all roads were closed. A mail in evening only. No school. Road to Livonia closed at 10:00 p.m. - same to Millheim via Smullton. To Services in evening. King George V of England died at 11:55 p.m. London time at age of 70 years - the Prince of Wales becomes the bachelor King Edward VIII.
January 21, 1936 - Tuesday. No school. Road to Livonia and the one to Tylersville were not open at 9:00 p.m.
January 22, 1936 - Wednesday. Cloudy - wonderful blizzard before dark - followed by high winds; closing the roads all of which had just been opened. Back in school again - 3 pupils absent. To Services - no Services until Sunday night on account of the inclement weather.
January 23, 1936 - Thursday. Fair, 14 degrees below zero in morning and around zero all day - high winds. No school. All roads closed, not a road opened all day.
January 24, 1936 - Friday. 4 to 10 degrees below zero. No school. One mail in evening. To I.O.O.F.
