A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for northern Arizona through midnight tonight. Heavy rainfall from incoming thunderstorms could lead to sudden and dangerous flash flooding across the area.

Key Safety Reminders:

Avoid High-Risk Areas: Stay away from creeks, slot canyons, recent burn scars, and low-water crossings.

Stay Alert: Ensure you have multiple ways to receive Flash Flood Warnings (weather radio, emergency alerts on your phone) and be ready to act immediately if a warning is issued.

Turn Around, Don't Drown: NEVER attempt to drive through flooded roads. It takes as little as 12 inches of moving water to carry away a small vehicle.

Friday, August 28, 2026 - We will see a slight increase in the coverage of showers and thunderstorms coverage, but the main increase will be Saturday-Monday as the high pressure system near Arizona shifts eastward and moisture moves back into northern Arizona. We will have to monitor for the potential for risk of flash flooding across northern Arizona as showers and thunderstorms increase in coverage.

With the increase in showers and thunderstorms, the daily max temperature will decrease and should allow the Extreme Heat Warning for areas below 4,000 ft in Yavapai County & lower elevations of the Grand Canyon to end today at 8 PM MST/9 PM MDT.
