Starting today, August 19, the Belleview Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies nationwide for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, running through September 7.

As Labor Day approaches, please remember: if you drink, don’t drive. Impaired driving can turn a celebration into a tragedy in a matter of seconds.

If you see a suspected impaired driver, contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office dispatch center at (352) 732-9111. If the situation is an emergency, call 911.

Drive sober. Buckle up. Get home safely.

🚔 **Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over** 🚔

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the Belleview Police Department will join the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and law enforcement agencies across the country in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign.

The goal is simple: keep our roads safe and prevent impaired driving tragedies during the Labor Day holiday.

The statistics are a sobering reminder. During the 2024 Labor Day holiday period, 505 people lost their lives in traffic crashes nationwide. Of those fatalities, 170 (34%) involved an impaired driver. Among drivers ages 18–34 who were killed, 40% were driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.

If your Labor Day plans include alcohol:
✅ Choose a designated driver before you go.
✅ Use a taxi or rideshare service.
✅ If you've been drinking, hand your keys to a sober friend.
✅ Help friends make safe choices by preventing them from driving impaired.

Planning ahead takes only a few minutes—but it could save a life.

**BUDDY YARRINGTON**

Buddy Yarrington, an elderly white male approximately 6 feet tall and 170 pounds, was last seen at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the 11300 block of SE 55th Avenue.

He left the area on foot wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt, blue shorts, and black shoes. He may be carrying two shopping bags containing blankets.

If you have any information regarding Buddy's whereabouts, please call 911 immediately.

The Belleview Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies across the Southeastern United States, will participate in Operation Southern Slow Down from July 13–18, 2026.

Operation Southern Slow Down is an annual, week-long traffic safety campaign focused on reducing speed-related crashes through increased traffic enforcement and public education. The campaign is conducted in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the Florida Highway Patrol, local law enforcement agencies, and transportation and law enforcement partners throughout the Southeast.

The goal of this initiative is to reduce speed-related traffic crashes, particularly those resulting in serious injuries or fatalities.

During the enforcement period, officers with the Belleview Police Department will conduct proactive speed enforcement throughout the City of Belleview. We encourage all motorists to slow down, obey posted speed limits, and help keep our roadways safe for everyone.

Remember: Speeding saves seconds, but safe driving saves lives.

UPDATE:

The owner of the goat has been found!

🐐 Found Goat in Belleview! 🐐

On June 2, 2026, the Belleview Police Department responded to Golden Oaks Mobile Home Park regarding a found goat.

Officer Tyler arrived on scene and made contact with the goat, who was quickly given the nickname "Golden Goat" by the residents.

After ensuring the animal's safety, Officer Tyler transported Golden Goat to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, where members of the Agricultural Unit responded and transported the goat to their farm for care.

If you are the owner of this goat, please contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office to arrange for identification and reunification.

We appreciate the assistance of the Marion County Sheriff's Office Agricultural Unit in helping ensure Golden Goat is safe and well cared for.

On 05/24/2026 at approximately 1:30 pm officers with the Belleview Police Department and deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office began requesting residents in the area of SE 107th Place and SE 52nd Court to evacuate in reference to a possibly dangerous situation involving a person with a violent felony warrant in the area.

At 2:10 pm the scene has been cleared. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. The suspect has been taken into custody without incident. All residents who evacuated the area can return to their homes.
