The Belleville Community Garden is officially open for the season!

Located at Fairway Park, the garden features 40 plots that were made available for seasonal registration to Belleville residents earlier this year. The gardening season runs from April through November.

We are excited to see such strong community interest in the program, and we are happy to announce that all 40 plots have been reserved for the season.
Thank you to everyone who signed up and helped make the Belleville Community Garden a success. We look forward to another great growing season at Fairway Park!

Thank you to all who came out today to help us continue gearing up for the growing season! We weeded beds and cleaned more walking area than I ever imagined! And we protected the most vulnerable plants while also putting new seedlings in the ground. 🥰

The community garden truly would not be where it is without its community! 👏

Potato spuds went into bed 17, more squash like honey boat (if you don’t know, please Google! They are SO pretty!!) and delicata varieties were planted. Rocks were painted to look like strawberries to keep the birds away!

It was a beautiful day to have a beautiful day in the garden 🌱

Happy Sunday!

Quick correction to our bed mulch - it is actually straw not hay! With colder weather coming we wanted to make sure the beds would be insulated and with a quick search we learned something new.

The straw will also be used as a more cost-effective alternative to mulch on the ground of the garden to help keep pathways clear from prolific plants taking over.

On another note: the loofahs are doing well in the grow lights and soon enough will be hardened off to start climbing the cattle panels in the garden 😍🌱

Friendly reminder we will have a table at the upcoming Farmer's Market! The market will be held at the lot next to the track at the high school, every Sunday from 10am-2pm June 2nd through October 27th.

The second Sunday of every month will be family day, with a bounce house and additional activities for the kids.

Yesterday Jay, Sabrina, Rita and I had a seed planting power hour.

What is that you say?

We just planted as many seeds as we possibly could in 60 minutes 😂

Thank you Belleville public works for dropping off the hay! We used it to cover beds that had been planted to keep the birds from eating the seedlings.

We planted lettuce (romaine, buttercrunch and black seeded Simpson), beets, radishes (2 kinds!), carrots and rainbow Swiss chard 🌈

We will be back Sunday from 10-2 to build potato cages, plant some more seeds and build a trellis for the green beans.
