This could've been much worse. Farmers really saved the day. I don't know how many tractors with disks and water tenders were there, but they made all the difference. There were multiple fire departments called for mutual aid for Courtland fire. Their quick thinking and action also helped minimize the damage. Good job to everyone involved.

This was not a controlled burn that got away. The high winds stirred up embers from a controlled burn from a week or so ago.

We would like to thank The City of Belleville, The Republic County Community Foundation, and The Dane G Hansen Foundation for funding this project. We were able to purchase 4 new SCBA air packs, 8 SCBA air bottles, 4 new SCBA air masks, and 4 air mask bags.
