Today, we take time to thank our veterans and celebrate their service to our country. We especially recognize those who served our country and continue to serve our communities in new and important ways.

We also recognize that the work of supporting our veterans happens everyday. We thank those who devote each day to solving the many problems that face our veterans--joblessness, homelessness, mental illness and the invisible wounds of war, and delayed access to needed healthcare. We also thank the caregivers of our veterans--their loved ones and families who support our heroes with their thoughts and actions in ways only they can offer.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Veterans Affairs has lost the trust of veterans and the American people as a result of widespread treatment delays for people seeking health care and falsified records to cover up those delays, the agency's top official said Wednesday.

Illinois VA facilities flagged for further investigation.

CHICAGO (AP) - U.S. Senator Mark Kirk says his office learned early Monday that some Illinois facilities were flagged for further review following a VA audit. They include hospitals in Hines and Marion and an outpatient clinic in Peoria.
