As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to remember the true meaning of this special day.
Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our nation and protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten.
On behalf of the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency and ETSB 9-1-1, I would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to all veterans and active-duty military personnel. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to our great nation.
As you enjoy the holiday weekend, please celebrate safely, look out for one another, and keep the families of our fallen heroes in your thoughts and prayers.
May God bless our military, our veterans, the citizens of St. Clair County, and the United States of America.
Happy and Safe Memorial Day.

Herb Simmons
Director, St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency

Based on the latest updates from the National Weather Service and the revised forecast indicating minimal rainfall for the remainder of the day, we informed Director Ashley Jett of Animal Services that the animals could be safely relocated back to their temporary housing. The new facility on South 74th Street is nearing completion, rendering the current housing arrangement temporary. I want to commend the Animal Services team for their proactive response to the potential flooding threat yesterday. Their teamwork and efficiency were evident in the swift relocation of 49 dogs and 20 cats. Thanks to our partners and the Public Building Commission employees, the relocation was completed within two hours, and items were secured out of potential floodwaters. We've acknowledged feedback regarding the previous flooding, which was chaotic due to the incessant storms rather than individual inaction. Despite the challenges, the team worked diligently to safeguard animals and essential items. The Emergency Management Agency's presence was notable, with staff and volunteers going above and beyond. This incident's outcome was more favorable due to timely warnings and adequate preparation time. A successful outcome in unforeseen circumstances is the ultimate goal. We're reminded of nature's unpredictability and the importance of doing our best. Gratitude is extended to the staff and all involved.
