Kicking off day one of the Illinois Association of Community Action Agencies (IACCA)conference this morning in Springfield. Community Action programs administered through the Grants Department include LIHEAP, Weatherization, and Community Services Block Grants. IACAA advocates for community action agencies throughout Illinois on both the state and federal level. LIHEAP, Weatherization, CSBG, Fiscal, and Administrative staff are all represented at this event.

Leadership Belleville hosted its class of 2026 graduation today. If you are not familiar with Leadership Belleville it is a unique training opportunity coordinated through the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce designed, among other things, to establish valuable relationships and develop effective community leaders. Day two of the Illinois Workforce Summit. Our Youth Program Compliance Specialist, Sandy Billhartz, was part of a panel that briefed workforce development professionals on the new IWDS 2.0 system this morning. IWDS 2.0 is a major upgrade to Illinois’ workforce system, designed to improve compliance, streamline service delivery, and enhance the participant experience, with a strong focus on accessibility, efficiency, and integration across the state’s workforce ecosystem. Sandy was chosen as a regional trainer for the new system and will be assisting other workforce areas as they implement the new system.

Some of the Workforce Development Group staff are attending the 2026 Illinois Workforce Summit—a gathering dedicated to strengthening Illinois’ workforce through collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose.

This year’s theme, Empower. Engage. Excel reflects our commitment to supporting workforce professionals and partners at every level. Through empowering individuals, engaging communities and employers, and striving for excellence in service delivery, we aim to create a stronger, more inclusive workforce system across Illinois.

Cindy Layman presented as part of a Talent Pipeline Management session. The St. Clair County Workforce Development Group was also recognized for its collaboration with Madison County Employment and Training to advance hospitality apprenticeships across the region.
