Observed the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers.

The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.

Congratulations to Deputy David Frisse on your retirement after 25 years of service!

Deputy David Frisse began his career with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department as a patrol deputy on April 1st, 2001 after serving previously as a police officer with the cities of Caseyville, East St. Louis, Shiloh, and Alorton.

After joining the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, he was assigned to the patrol division where he remained for the majority of his career, before being assigned as an investigator with the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force before the unit was suspended. Deputy Frisse returned to the patrol division after the unit ended and resumed his previous assignment.

Throughout his years of service, he has earned numerous awards and accolades for his exceptional performance. Although Deputy Frisse never tested to become a supervisor or had a desire to hold this position, he has remained a very effective leader in our department, training countless officers by example of his work ethic and professional attitude. Congratulations #230

We would like to welcome two of our newest members to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Susan Holloway and Deputy Taylor Brooks.

Deputy Susan Holloway joined our department after serving with another agency. Deputy Taylor Brooks was promoted to the patrol division after previously serving as our records. Deputy Taylor Brooks was also recognized for having the highest class academic score at the Southwestern Illinois Police Academy.

On 7-23-26 at 9:41 p.m., the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department emergency communications center received a call reporting an armed robbery in the 7700 block of Myrtlewood Drive in unincorporated Belleville.

The victim reported that she was contacted on Facebook in reference to selling a 2-month-old Havapoo puppy to an individual who she was familiar with for the amount of $650. She explained that when the woman arrived to purchase the puppy, the suspect wanted to hold the dog. While the suspect was sitting in the drivers seat of the vehicle, the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at her and fled the scene with the dog in the vehicle.

Deputies and investigators began developing leads to locate the suspect. On 7-25-26, the suspect’s vehicle was located, and she was taken into custody by troopers with the Illinois State Police Troop 8.

Investigator Christian Gatlin presented this criminal case for charges. On 7-25-26, Assistant State's Attorney Airika Detmer issued charges against suspect:

Lakendra L. Taylor
Black Female - 22 years old

Taylor was charged with Aggravated Robbery (Class 1 Criminal Felony).

The puppy was located and has been returned to the owner thanks to the diligent efforts of all involved with this case.

FROM THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR:

Yesterday…

How to exactly put into words what we experienced yesterday, isn’t going to be a possibility. I’m so incredibly proud of our staff for handling the pressure of yesterday and in a professional manner, to the best of our ability.

I’d love to give you all details as to what we had to accomplish yesterday, but now is not the time. I promise you will hear details and see pictures at a later date. In the interim, while we were figuring things out, we are looking for fosters. We are also asking for help financially.

Last night was probably the best night sleep that these (over 9️⃣0️⃣ animals) have gotten in a very long time. Regardless of how much work, sweat, tears, and emotion went into what we did yesterday, it will never bring you the amount of joy as watching those four legged babies sleep peacefully.

Please be patient with us as our kennels are overflowing and we are figuring things out.

On Friday, July 3rd, 2026, at 4:11 p.m., the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a domestic disturbance in the 9400 block of Schaller Road in Lenzburg (unincorporated St. Clair County). It was further reported that the juvenile victim was at the New Athens Police Department and officers were told that the father currently at the home destroying items and attempting to set the home on fire.

Upon arrival of deputies to the residence, they observed the home to be fully engulfed in fire. The suspect was located at the residence and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as:

Raymond J. Generous
w/m (42 years old)

Generous was transported to a local hospital for injuries that were caused during the commission of his crimes. He was later discharged and is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned that Generous battered a juvenile inside of the home and after becoming upset, he intentionally lit numerous items on fire. The juvenile victim was able to extinguish several of the fires, but it is believed that Generous lit additional items on fire after the juvenile exited the home.

Investigator Morgan Meise was assigned to investigate this case with the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office. After speaking with numerous witnesses and gathering all relevant facts, a warrant application was submitted to the St. Clair County State’s Attorneys’ Office. Assistant State’s Attorney Judith Dalan issued the following charges against Raymon J. Generous:

Aggravated Arson (Class X Criminal Felony)
Residential Arson (Class 1 Criminal Felony)
Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class 2 Criminal Felony)
Endangering the life or health of a child (Class A Criminal Misdemeanor)
Domestic Battery (Class A Criminal Misdemeanor)

St. Clair County Associate Judge Leah Captain ordered for Generous to be held in custody at the St. Clair County Jail pending further review of the court.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of the responding officers and investigators, and the New Athens and Marissa Fire Departments, no significant injuries were sustained because of the fire and there was no other loss of property to neighboring residences.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation, and more information will be provided as it becomes available. Anyone with essential information concerning this case is asked to contact Inv. Meise at 618-825-5716.
