Kids: “YAY… THE SPRINKLER’S HERE!”

Firefighters: “Actually, it’s a heat safety demonstration.”

We had a blast helping students cool off during Field Day yesterday, but this weekend’s warm temperatures are a good reminder to take the heat seriously.

Drink water before you’re thirsty. Take breaks in the shade. And most importantly, don’t be fooled into thinking our lakes are warm. They aren’t. Not yet. Wear a life jacket if you’re out on the water.

Just after 11pm last night, fire crews responded to reports of condo fire in the 1700 block of 159th Ave NE. On arrival, heavy fire was seen coming from the roof of two units. 30-minutes into the incident, the roof collapsed. For safety reasons, firefighters left the structure and went into defensive firefighting mode . The fire was called under control just past 12:30am.

Thankfully all occupants safely evacuated and no injuries were reported. Thank you for the assistance, Redmond WA Fire.oe

As we get closer to celebrating Independence Day, Bellevue Fire and Bellevue, WA Police Department want to remind everyone that the use and sale of fireworks are not allowed within the City of Bellevue.

We are so fortunate that the largest fireworks show on the Eastside is hosted in Bellevue, and we'd encourage everyone to attend a public display.

Cold water shock is very real and very dangerous. Please always take caution in, on or around the water.

EF&R is on scene of a water rescue at Lake Sammamish State Park. One male swimmer in his 30’s was seen floating facedown in the swimming area near his inflatable water chair. Bystanders were able to pull him to shore and begin CPR. Rescue teams from EF&R, Issaquah Police Department and Bellevue (WA) Fire Department worked for 30 minutes to regain a shockable rhythm. The patient was transported to an area hospital. This is a reminder the waters at Lake Sammamish and all our area waters are chilly and often don’t have Lifeguards on duty. The weather is warming up but our local waters are dangerously cold.

Bellevue Fire was proud to partner with Bellevue College this past Saturday to host the King County Fire Chiefs Association Diversity and Recruitment Workshop.

More than 150 people showed up to the event to learn about careers in Fire and EMS, and to connect with firefighters from departments throughout the region. Whether attendees were just beginning to explore the profession or preparing to apply, the workshop offered practical advice, mentorship and a behind the scenes look at the hiring process to becoming a firefighter. And Bellevue Fire's very own Firefighter Suy shared her journey about landing the (best 😊) job that allows her to serve the community she grew up in.

Events like this help connect those interested in the fire service with the resources, information and encouragement they need to take the next step. Missed this weekend? Stay tuned for the next workshop coming this fall.

A very special thanks to Bellevue College for providing the welcoming venue and to all the staff, firefighters, instructors and Chiefs who made the day a success!

PROMOTION - Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Zavaglia as he promotes to the rank of Firefighter/Engineer.

Serving as an unofficial leader of the crew, an engineer manages all pump operations at fires and has the weighty responsibility of making sure our firefighters, and community, stay safe while are driving to emergencies.

May the 4th be with you...and also with the firefighters who show up when it matters most.

Today is both Star Wars Day and International Firefighter's Day. One celebrates heroes in a galaxy far, far away. The other recognizes public servants right here at home. Every day, firefighters step into the unknown and help people through some of their hardest moments. No lightsabers. No special effects. Just training, teamwork, a commitment to serve and...okay...some pretty cool tools of our own.
