JOYFUL VOICES FOR AUGUST 2026- Kristina McElroy

Kristina McElroy* is our featured contributor for the month of August. If there is one thing you can say about Kristina it is that her love language is warm hugs for everyone she meets.

Even though Mother’s Day has now passed, she created a beautiful card for her mother, and we wanted to share her artistic endeavor with you. Store bought cards can be lovely to send but nothing says “I love you” quite as meaningfully as a card that is hand created just for you and that is what Kristina did for her mother this year.

Kristina is a faithful attendee at all of our monthly socials and we are delighted to see her there, along with her mother who joins in the fun too.

Thank you, Kristina, for sharing your artistic talent with us!

What had been sitting unused in one garage became a practical solution for another family preparing for a major transition. Because of none donor’s decision to pass along equipment they no longer needed, a teenager will have a safer way to enter and leave his home during recovery.

This is the power of equipment reuse.

Thank you for helping provide safety, access, and hope.

For nearly 20 years, Alex has lived with progressive neurological challenges and relied on a manual wheelchair.

By the time he applied to Bridge’s Benevolent Fund in late 2023, he had been homebound in his apartment for more than a year. The steep hills near his home made getting around difficult, and growing safety concerns in his Seattle neighborhood left him less comfortable relying on others to push him to the library, a coffee shop, or the waterfront he loves.

He missed being outside. He missed sunrises, sunsets, stars, and the open sky. In his application for power mobility equipment, Alex wrote, “I need to break outta here! Please help.”

Bridge’s Benevolent Fund was created to support people who have limited or no financial resources and cannot contribute toward the cost of power mobility equipment.

Through the fund, Alex received a power wheelchair at no cost. For him, it meant far more than receiving a piece of equipment. It meant a way back outside.
The power wheelchair gave Alex a safer, more independent way to leave his apartment and reconnect with the places and experiences that matter to him.

Since then, Alex has returned to Bridge many times for adjustments, repairs, and technical support. He knows our team is here for him, and we are always glad to see him and hear how he is doing.

JOYFUL VOICES FOR JULY 2026 - Michelle Perlbachs

Michelle Perlbachs* loves to take pictures everywhere she goes! And one of her favorites was when she visited Snoqualmie Falls with her sister and snapped the lovely photograph she is sharing with Joyful Voices for the month of July. She remembers how hot it was that day, so the cooling spray of the falls was very much appreciated!

Michelle has been a long-time attendee at our monthly Joyful Connections social events but what many probably do not know about her is that she was most happy to take over the Lizzy Legacy Greeting Card ministry after we lost our beloved friend, Lizzy Costanza, who started that card ministry as a way of lifting others up with encouraging heartfelt messages.

We did not want what Lizzy loved doing for others to be lost with her passing, so we began a search for who could take over what she had begun. Michelle was just the right person and many of her photographs have been posted on these cards.

In addition to photography, Michelle also loves sports- especially the Mariners- and listening to music.

Thank you, Michelle, for sharing your gift of photography with us and for your commitment to the Lizzy’s Legacy Card Ministry.

When local programs work together, barriers come down.

Ryan and the Pathways to Wellness team at SOUND help people access mental health and recovery services while meeting everyday needs through meals, showers, clothing, housing support, and more.

When Ryan reached out to for wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and canes, we were glad to help.

Access to care isn’t just about services—it’s also about having the tools to reach them. Together, we’re making support more accessible for our neighbors navigating mental health challenges, recovery, and housing instability.
