In 2023, the City of Bellevue commissioned artist Esmeralda Vasquez to create a decorative pavement artwork celebrating Pride. Her design, “The Love Between,” depicts two hands reaching towards each other, separated by a twisting stem with eight flowers: six in pride flag colors and two in trans and non-binary fag colors. The design symbolizes growth and strength for q***r individuals and reflects the nearby park’s role in uniting people of all ages, identities, and cultures, promoting community unity.
The City Council vision states, “Bellevue welcomes the world. Our diversity is our strength.” This project is one of many ways that the city celebrates the diversity that makes the Bellevue community strong. It is also part of a strong arts program that values giving local artists opportunities to share their talents and lived experience.
