STRUCTURE FIRE

Yesterday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., Bellevue Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire in Convis Township. Marshall Township Fire was also dispatched as automatic mutual aid.

Due to the early morning hour and the potential for limited manpower as members were leaving for work, Marshall City Fire was requested for additional personnel.

Marshall Township 1302 was first to arrive and reported a single-story residence fully involved, with fire threatening a detached garage located approximately five feet from the home.

Bellevue Engine 112 arrived shortly afterward, and crews deployed attack lines to begin fire suppression operations. Due to the heavy fire conditions encountered upon arrival, crews initially operated in a defensive strategy. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down and conditions improved, crews were able to transition to interior operations.

Firefighters from all departments worked together to complete overhaul operations and extinguish the remaining fire.

Fortunately, no human injuries were reported. Sadly, several animals were inside the residence and perished in the fire. We extend our sincere condolences to the family for the loss of their home and beloved animals.

We thank the following for the help and teamwork!

STRUCTURE FIRE:

Yesterday at approximately 4:00 p.m., Bellevue Fire Department was dispatched, along with Olivet Fire Department for mutual aid, to a reported structure fire in Bellevue Township.

An on-duty member and one additional firefighter were able to respond within one minute of dispatch. As crews were leaving the Village of Bellevue, a large column of smoke was visible. Eaton County 911 advised responding units that the structure involved was a 30-by-40-foot pole barn.

Upon arrival, crews found the pole barn fully involved, with heavy fire pushing from the garage door. Hose lines were quickly stretched and an initial fire attack was initiated. Due to the heavy volume of fire coming from the structure, a ground monitor was rapidly deployed to provide additional water flow.

Charlotte Fire Department was requested to the scene for additional tanker support and manpower. Crews from all responding departments worked together to bring the fire under control and extinguish the remaining fire.

Although the pole barn remained standing, it sustained extensive damage due to the heavy fire conditions and the large amount of flammable contents stored inside.

The homeowner sustained minor burns and was treated at the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

Bellevue Fire Department would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance:

• Olivet Fire Department
• Charlotte Fire Department
• Eaton Area EMS
• Consumers Energy
• Eaton County 911

We appreciate the quick response and teamwork of everyone involved.

Structure Fire

Last night at approximately 8:30 PM, Bellevue Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in Assyria Township. Initial reports indicated a barn was on fire. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that a large 60x100 barn was fully involved and had already collapsed before the fire.

BFD set up hose lines to initiate extinguishment efforts, prioritizing the protection of a nearby animal enclosure that was under threat. BFD established a Rural Water hitch for our water supply, with support from Johnstown Fire’s tanker and BFD Tanker 115. Additionally, Johnstown Fire worked to establish a draft at a nearby site for refilling tankers.

The crews faced significant challenges due to the roof collapse, which hampered access to the remaining flames. A mini excavator was brought to the scene to assist in removing debris for effective extinguishment.

After a vigorous 5-hour effort and approximately 37,000 gallons of water used, the fire was successfully extinguished.

We thank everyone that provided assistance on scene; LifeCare Ambulance, Johnstown Fire Department Michigan, Barry County Central Dispatch, Barry County Sheriff's Office and GDH & Sons (Mini Excavator)

**Bellevue Fire Department Incident Reports**

Yesterday at approximately 4:30 PM, Bellevue Fire was dispatched to a reported personal injury incident in Bellevue Township. Due to ongoing construction, alternate routes were utilized for response causing some delay in response. Upon arrival, BFD found three patients, all of whom were not trapped. Triage was conducted, resulting in one red and two yellow patients. BFD began providing care to all individuals while awaiting responding ambulances. All patients were transported to the hospital and conditions are unknown at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the patients and families.

Bellevue Fire wass assisted by the Michigan State Police, Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority, Castleton Maplegrove Nashville Area EMS, Eaton Area EMS, and Eaton County 911

Later that evening, around 9:30 PM, Bellevue Fire received a dispatch for a reported fall near the Cement Factory. Dispatch indicated that the patient had sustained an ankle injury and was able to provide an exact location via phone to responding units. Utility 117 (UTV) responded and made contact with the patient approximately halfway back on the nature trail. The patient was splinted and carefully loaded onto the stokes basket of Utility 117. They were then transported to the parking lot and moved onto a stretcher, awaiting further transport. The patient was transported to the hospital by Eaton Area EMS.

Bellevue Fire was again assisted by Eaton County 911 and Eaton Area EMS.

Structure Fire

Last night at approximately 23:30, Bellevue Fire was dispatched for a reported structure fire in Assyria Township. Dispatch reported a freezer had caught fire in the basement and homeowners tried to extinguish but were unsuccessful with flames still visible. Engine 112 went in route quickly, followed by Tanker 115, Engine 111 and Squad 119.

On scene, crews noted nothing showing from the exterior of the house. Upon entering the house with a water extinguisher, crews found light smoke on the first floor and flames visible in the basement. Interior crews then used the water extinguisher to extinguish flames coming from a metal sink on top of the freezer, with tools and batteries inside it. Flames had spread to an interior wooden wall that crews extinguished. Overhaul was preformed of the wall and ventilation was initiated. Crews remained on scene until all smoke had been removed from the residence and all hot spots were extinguished.

Although it was a long haul to the residence in our coverage area, a quick turnout time made it possible for the house to suffer only minor loss, with damage to the tools and interior wall of the basement, as well as some smoke damage.

Bellevue Fire was assisted by Johnstown Fire Department Michigan, LifeCare Ambulance and Barry County Central Dispatch

Friendly reminder:

The fire station parking lot is for firemen parking only. We understand that there is limited parking for the car show, however, if our personnel need to park there for emergency calls, we need the space. There will be absolutely NO Parking in front of the apparatus doors. Your vehicle will be moved by something much larger if need be. There are multiple signs stating what the lot is for. Thank you for using some brain power.
