Heads up, Bellevue transit riders — major Eastside service changes begin Saturday, August 29.

King County Metro and Sound Transit are launching the final phase of East Link Connections to streamline routes and improve access to the 2 Line.

What to know:
• Route 271 will be discontinued. New Routes 220 and 270 will cover former connections between Eastgate, downtown Bellevue, and the University District.

• Route 550 will be discontinued. Riders traveling between Bellevue and Seattle should use the 2 Line light rail. Expanded service on Route 556 will help with connections.

• Additional regional routes will receive updated schedules, longer hours, or revised routing.

🛒 Sell By: This tells the store how long to sell the item. This is not a safety date.
⭐ Best By: Food is expected to taste its best until this date.
⏰ Use By: The last date recommended for use of a product at peak quality.
🧊Freeze By: Indicates when a product should move to the freezer to maintain peak quality.

💡 Back-to-school tip: Before packing lunches, check the fridge and pantry for foods that need to be eaten soon. Less waste = more food saved!

🚧 Lake Hills Boulevard construction update 🚧 Progress is happening on Bellevue Utilities Kelsey Creek Culvert Replacement Project. Last weekend, crews successfully placed the new culvert into the ground, which is an important milestone in the project!

What's Next? Work continues and Lake Hills Boulevard remains closed between 151st Ave SE and 154th Ave SE through Oct. 1.

Thanks to the traveling community and Lake Hills residents for your patience as crews work to replace this critical piece of infrastructure. We’ll keep sharing updates as work progresses.

Regional Animal Services of King County's pet of the week is Blizzard, an 11-year-old male Alaskan husky mix dog (ID ). He's a senior, but still has pep and enjoys long walks. He's neutered, current on vaccinations and microchipped. As Pet of the Week for the week of Aug. 25, his adoption fee is reduced!

UPDATE: We are following up our post from last week with additional information about the recently installed speed safety cameras to answer some of the questions posed by community members:
• Speed safety cameras are a proven technology to slow high-speed drivers and enforce existing speed laws. See our FAQs.
• The cameras are only activated when a driver is violating the law by exceeding the speed limit. The cameras capture images of the rear of the vehicle to collect the license plate number, speed of the vehicle, date and time of the infraction and the location.
• The cameras do NOT capture the front of vehicles, identify drivers, track vehicle movements or function as general surveillance systems.
• Our vendor is Verra Mobility, we do not have Flock cameras in Bellevue.
• The cameras have been placed at locations where speeding issues exist.
• Slower speeds reduce severity of crashes. Pedestrians have a 90% survivability rate when hit by a vehicle going 20 mph versus about 50% with a vehicle traveling 30 mph.
• Vandalizing the speed safety cameras is a crime.

We're adding speed safety cameras next week at four locations, with a monthlong warning period before citations are issued. The cameras will be near hospitals, parks, school walk zones or in corridors with a documented history of speed-related crashes.
