Doug Chadwick for Sheriff

Doug Chadwick for Sheriff "Doug Chadwick is best described as an everybody-neighbor. With Doug, there is none. He has an immense capacity for compassion, empathy, and rule-following.

He can entertain a large group of people who have differing opinions and ensure the atmosphere remains pleasant, calm, and balanced. Police officers today are largely under the magnifying glass, with communities looking for signs of bias. He was born and raised in the very community he now protects and serves, and therefore views its members as equal humans, without prejudice. He has his fingers o

n the pulse of Whatcom County and knows intimately what its heart is and seeks to understand the varied backgrounds of its citizens, and can communicate with ease and humility. Doug is approachable, is kind in his tone and body language, and yet remains an indelible professional. Doug's affable and unflappable demeanor make him a community favorite, and relied upon for his diplomacy and rich heart for the people of Whatcom County. Doug is gentle, decisive, and sociable, making him a well-rounded servant of the community. His tenacity and due diligence have brought justice to the wounds of Whatcom County over his long and successful career, and made the community safer for its residents, allowing for collective healing." I want to thank each and every person that supported me throughout this campaign. I especially want to thank my family, for their unconditional and unwavering support.

I ran my campaign based on my qualifications and nearly three decades of experience, prioritizing public safety, the people and the dedicated men and women of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office. I also campaigned as a strong proponent for a new jail and I am happy that our community voted decisively to build a modern jail that provides a safe environment for our correction deputies and offenders, as well as will help address our public safety issues. I am proud of the campaign we ran and was humbled by the outpouring of support from around Whatcom County.

I have gained a whole new skill set from this campaign and many new friends and acquaintances to add to my community network. For that, I am eternally grateful and appreciate more than you can know.

For those that boldly stood behind me and my family, you have my deepest gratitude and respect. It was a long process, but I am thankful for all those that joined and supported us on this journey.

I am not sure what my future holds, but my first priority is supporting and taking care of my family. To the men and women of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, it has been an honor to serve and work with you. I will always support you and have your back. To Sheriff Elfo, thank you for your strong leadership, your mentorship, as well as the trust you placed in me to be your successor. It was an honor and a privilege to serve as a member of your team for all these years.

I reached out yesterday and congratulated Sheriff-elect Tanksley. I will now turn my focus to assisting the new Sheriff with the transition process. He is inheriting a well run, well trained and well respected organization. The dedicated men and women of the Sheriff’s Office will continue to serve the citizens of Whatcom County and uphold our values of excellence, integrity and teamwork.

From myself and my family, thank you again to all those that showed up and supported us.

Be well and be safe,

Doug
