New Washington State E-Bike Law Takes Effect June 11, 2026

The Ferndale Police Department wants to remind riders and parents about updates to Washington's e-bike laws that take effect on June 11, 2026.

The new law clarifies what qualifies as an e-bike, maintains the state's three e-bike classes, and distinguishes e-bikes from higher-powered electric motorcycles that may require registration, insurance, and a motorcycle endorsement.

Parents and Guardians: As e-bikes continue to grow in popularity among young riders, now is a great time to review the rules of the road and ensure your child is riding a legal and appropriately classified e-bike. Remember, riders under 16 years old may not operate a Class 3 e-bike.
