Learning that your child has a developmental delay, disability, or chronic health need can be a traumatic experience. Parents have many questions and concerns in coping with their child's needs and their own feelings. Personal support from another parent, who has a child with similar needs, can be helpful in coping with these challenging experiences and feelings. “Helping Parents” (volunteer mentors) are available to provide support and information.

Seattle Children’s Autism Center created a new video series to help families better understand autism. The videos explain autism, the diagnosis process, and the support options in a simple and easy-to-follow way.
The article also features an interview with Joy Gehner, a case manager and family advocate, who shares how important it is for families to feel supported, informed, and connected to resources throughout the autism journey.

Seattle Children's launches the first hospital-led animated autism series to provide families with accessible information and combat misinformation.

Sharing from (Lynden)

We’re a group of Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) employees working to make our libraries more accessible and inclusive for everyone. Thanks to a $10,000 grant from the American Library Association in partnership with the Association for Rural & Small Libraries, we’re launching new efforts focused on better serving Deaf and hard-of-hearing community members—through improved programming, technology, and staff training. We want to build this work with the community, not for it, and would love your input.
Join us for a Community Conversation on Wednesday, June 10th from 6–7:30pm at the Lynden Library (216 4th Street). We’re inviting Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and all interested community members to share ideas, experiences, and feedback on how libraries can better support accessibility and inclusion—including what’s working, what could improve, and what tools or technology would make the biggest difference. This is a welcoming, all-ages event with crafts and games for kids. Snacks, ASL interpretation, and a hearing loop will be provided. Register on our website: Community Conversation with the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing – WCLS Library Events.
