Ally has spent her career helping first-time and income-qualified buyers navigate the path to homeownership.

More than 100 friends joined us for the Green Home Tours & Talks event this week, exploring our new LaFreniere Court homes and hearing directly from the incredible partners who helped bring this beautiful, sustainable project to life.

Bellingham is about to make it easier to build affordable housing. The city is weighing a new ordinance that would waive height limits, density caps, lot coverage maximums, and other zoning barriers for affordable housing projects, but only for city-funded developments led by vetted nonprofit developers. Kulshan Community Land Trust's Executive Director Rose Lathrop, who also serves on the Bellingham Planning Commission noted it was "about time" for this kind of policy.

She also had a message for the rest of Whatcom County: "Small cities take note." Kulshan Community Land Trust has run into real roadblocks trying to build affordable housing outside Bellingham, where fee waivers and incentives like this don't yet exist.

The Planning Commission voted unanimously to send the ordinance to City Council, where it heads to a public hearing on August 24.

This is exactly the kind of policy shift that helps make projects like LaFreniere Court possible: and makes them possible in more places.

Council considers strategies: tiny homes on wheels, low-income incentives, no parking minimums

This coming Wednesday, August 5th, from 10 am-2 pm, join us for Senior Day in the Park 2026. This fun-filled day at Hovander Park is the Whatcom Council on Aging's premier event for local seniors!

Connect with more than 1,500 local seniors and 125 vendors, including Kulshan Community Land Trust, while enjoying: a picnic; live music and dancing; a community resource fair; and, outdoor fun with friends and neighbors.
