A important message from the 6th Battalion!
We are Sounding the Alarm for More Volunteers!
YOUR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE STATEWIDE
“RECRUITNY” OPEN HOUSE WEEKEND APRIL 22 AND 23
East Meadow, N.Y. – April 10, 2023 - April is a big recruitment month for fire districts throughout New York State. This applies to both men and women.
Our Firehouses will open their doors to the public in conjunction with the statewide annual volunteer firefighter recruitment weekend, April 22nd, and April 23rd. The sixth battalion cluster of departments would like to invite any resident. During the weekend, potential volunteers will have the opportunity to speak with active volunteers, enabling citizens to better understand the role the local fire department plays in protecting their community.
Chairman Chief Cheswick said “This is an excellent opportunity for people to meet their local volunteer firefighters and fire medics and learn a bit more about the fire service. Volunteer firefighters and fire medics are everyday heroes who dedicate their spare time to helping people in their times of need.”
Chief Cheswick continued, “It is our hope that after seeing the incredible fellowship of the firehouse up close, more people will be interested in becoming a part of our special family.”
Attendees can learn how to train to become a firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician. All training is provided free of charge. Officers and members will be on hand to explain the process and answer any questions.
There are benefits to volunteering such as help with college tuition, property tax deductions and pension, but it is the sense of community, belonging and desire to help others that is the real achievement.
Volunteer fire departments across New York state have been faced with decreased membership and increased call volume. Like most volunteer fire departments, we need to bolster our ranks so we can continue to provide the optimum level of protection for our residents.
