Greater Falls Community Justice Center

Greater Falls Community Justice Center The goals of GFCJC are to enhance community safety, improve quality of life, and increase volunteer citizen participation in the criminal justice process.

The GFCJC is a nonprofit that operates with input from the Village of Bellows Falls, the Town of Springfield, and the surrounding communities. We are committed to serving the needs and priorities of these communities, providing a safe environment for resolving conflicts, and promoting restorative justice and victim sensitivity. Citizen volunteers, trained in restorative practices, provide guidance

to the center and deliver many of the services to our clients. We recognize the potential for citizens to live in harmony with their neighbors, the local police, and other state agencies, and to contribute to the civility and well-being of the community. Started in 2011, we are a relatively new agency that looks forward to continuing to provide new programs that meet the needs of our ever-changing society and community.

On Wednesday evening, October 29 we hosted 16 new Afghan immigrants to Springfield for a potluck dinner in the hall outside our office. 14 GFCJC staff and volunteers cooked food, as did the Afghan families. There were six wonderful children who shared how much they love school in Vermont, while their parents expressed their appreciation for the welcoming and inclusive community of Vermonters that they have experienced since arriving here in the last few months.

We were lucky to taste some of their traditional Afghan dishes and have our hearts truly warmed by this time together sharing with them across our diverse cultures and languages. There is so much to enjoy and learn from each other! Even after all the challenges and difficulties they have been through, we are so grateful to have them here with us.

Community Meeting: After School Opportunities for Area Youth
Wednesday, November 5, 3-4pm
Rockingham Free Public Library (65 Westminster St., Bellows Falls, VT 05101), upstairs

At the community meeting on 10/8/25, participants voiced a concern about the need for more after-school opportunities for kids in the community. We will be following up on that topic at this meeting by planning an "After-School Fair" that will allow area children and families to learn more about and sign up for after school activities. We will also follow up on ideas for creating more opportunities for children to gather after school in safe and supervised spaces.
If you are interested in sharing ideas or concerns, or would like to help out with these efforts, please attend this meeting!
Please email [email protected] with any questions or comments.
