The incident is now closed and crews have left the premises.
It was determined the cause was due to carbon monoxide.

Crockett County Emergency Management Agency along with multiple other agencies worked a situation at Pictsweet this afternoon.

Once the size and scope of the situation was determined mutual aid and assistance was immediately requested.

We are so appreciative to Bells Food Rite for heading up a month long fundraiser for the Bells Fire Department and Bells Police Department. The funds raised will go toward the purchase of much needed equipment for each department. On site today along with the employees of Food Rite were Assistant Fire Chief Jason Pigue, Firefighter Collyn Griffin, Firefighter Wil Permenter, Police Chief Kevin Ligon and Assistant Police Chief Donnie King. You still have time to donate at Bells Food Rite through June 28, 2026. Again we appreciate Bells Food Rite and our community for your support.

Members of the Bells Police Department and the Bells Fire Department took part in the funeral service of Mr. Lee F. Hickman, former Fire Chief, yesterday. Some served as pallbearers and after the service, Mr. Hickman was escorted through town and in front of the fire station by police and fire vehicles. Pictured below are Police Chief Kevin Ligon, Firefighter Junior Jordan, Assistant Fire Chief Jason Pigue, Firefighter Wil Permenter, Firefighter Collyn Griffin, Firefighter Phillip Miller and Fire Chief Wayne Jernigan. Not pictured are Assistant Police Chief Donnie King, who lead the procession, Firefighter Marco Bautista and Firefighter Joshua Howell who were on standby at the fire station to make sure the lights were on the fire trucks there as the procession passed by, Assistant Fire Chief Allen Peyton and Firefighter Daniel Pigue.

We are saddened to announce the passing of our former Fire Chief, Lee Hickman. He served on Bells Fire Department for over 30 years where he touched many lives. Please remember the family at this very difficult time.

Bells Fire Department had four members go through their Live Burn Certification at the Madison County Fire Department Training Academy as the they wrap up their State required 64 Hour Firefighter Training. Marco Bautista, Collyn Griffin, Collin Revelle and Joshua Howell participated in numerous activities showcasing and testing the skills needed to complete this certification. We are so proud of them all. They are definitely assets to our already outstanding group of Firefighters on the department. We appreciate Crockett County & Friendship Fire Chief & TN Fire Codes Academy Instructor Casey Burnett, Memphis Firefighter & TN Fire Codes Academy Instructor John Doyle, Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner, Madison County Training Instructor Jana Compton and others from Madison County Fire Department for their efforts in training such a fine group of individuals.

Here’s a few pictures of trainings this year. Your local firefighters are constantly learning and improving the skills needed to serve the community. We have a great group of seasoned and new members on the department.
