Richland County, Ohio Chapter, OGS The Richland County Genealogical Society was organized in 1959 as The Ohio Genealogical Society.

In 1964, it was reorganized as the Richland County Genealogical Society, the first county chapter of The Ohio Genealogical Society.

The RCGS September meeting date has been changed to Saturday, Sept. 26, 2 - 4 pm. We'll meet in the OGS parking lot at 1:30 for those who wish to carpool.

The address of the museum is 23 E. Main, Shelby, OH 44875 (behind the utility building).

It's time again for our Chapter Work Day. Thank you to all of you that live close enough to the OGS Library that have joined us on these Work Days!

We are making progress towards completion of the Newspaper Photo collection and as always, progress on Richland Court files as they come to us.

Hope you can join us Thursday, August 20th at the OGS Library, anytime between 10 and 4pm.

Just a reminder that The Richland County Genealogical Society's Lineage Potluck with a beautiful cake will be held at OGS, Saturday August 22, 2026, from 12 to 2. Following the potluck Traci McQuillen will present Revolutionary War Era Clothing Styles.

The America 250 Traveling Exhibit will be free at the Ohio Genealogical Society from August 18 to August 22 and August 25 to 28, 10-4. This exhibit is sponsored by Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the American Battlefield Trust. There are twelve informative 6X3 color posters and talking kiosks depicting various topics and persons from the American Revolution. This exhibit has appeared at many prestigious locations such as state capitols.

From 2 to 3 pm each day, a program will be presented by the Richland County Genealogical Society or DAR. Come hear an exciting program and visit this unique exhibit celebrating America's heritage!

DATE CHANGE! The Richland County Genealogical Society's Lineage Banquet that was originally scheduled for August 15, 2026, at OGS, has been changed to August 22, 2026, from 12 to 2. Sorry, for the confusion -- OGS decided to change the Saturday date they are open for August.

RCGS Meeting Saturday 2:00 at the OGS Library -- Preserving Your Family Heirlooms. Bring an heirloom to the meeting and our speaker will discuss how to keep it safe for future generations. Even if you don't have questions about preserving your heirloom, bring it for a show and tell about your treasure!

Eric Honneffer is a retired document conservator and manuscript specialist from BGSU's Center for Archival Collections. There will be plenty of time for questions. Sorry--no Zoom this meeting.
