Volunteer fire companies need more than firefighters. It takes dedicated people in many different roles to keep a department strong and ready to serve.

Excelsior Fire Company Welcomed Two New Members at our meeting Tuesday evening.

We are proud to have them join our team and become part of the Excelsior family.

We welcomed a new Junior Firefighter. She will be taking her first steps toward becoming a member of the fire service. If you didn’t know, young people can join at age 14 and begin learning and training to become a firefighter at age 18. It is a good opportunity for them to begin serving their community at a young age.

We also welcomed our newest Social Member! While she may not respond to emergency calls, her support will be invaluable as she helps with fundraising, events, and other activities that keep our company moving forward.

We appreciate both of our newest members for stepping up and supporting the Excelsior Fire Company.

Congratulations to one of Excelsior Fire Company’s chief officers, Tommy Whiteford, who also serves with the Chambersburg Fire Department!

Tommy was recently recognized for his outstanding actions after he and his crew successfully saved the life of a person who went into cardiac arrest.

We are extremely proud of Tommy and his crew for their quick response, professionalism, and lifesaving teamwork. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! Your dedication to serving others represents the very best of the fire service.

The officers and members of the Excelsior Fire Company would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Antis Township Board of Supervisors, the Altoona Water Authority, General Manager Mark Perry, and Superintendent Rick McPhee for their efforts in installing eight new fire hydrants throughout Antis Township.

These hydrants are a valuable improvement that will strengthen fire protection and help us better serve our community.

If you notice a new fire hydrant near your home, please contact your homeowners insurance provider. Its proximity may help lower your insurance premium.
