Leg #10 of the Law Enforcement Illinois Special Olympics Torch Run is coming up on June 28, 2026 at 8:30am. Save the date and come out and support the Officers as they run the 4 mile route. We will start at the Broadview Police Department, run north on 25th to Madison (Bellwood), west Madison to Bellwood Avenue, south Bellwood Avenue/Westchester Blvd to Roosevelt and west Roosevelt to the Sheet Metal (Hillside). Support us by donating, cheering us on, or coming to the Sheet Metal afterwards for raffles and food. Bellwood, Broadview, Hillside, River Forest, Maywood and Westchester will all be participating. It will be a good time just like last year and I can't wait to see the athletes again. Hope to see you there!

It has been a long time coming but we finally got some new equipment for our Police Fitness Center. Thank you to Forest Fitness for getting us the equipment so quickly and setting it up. Can't wait to use it!

The next Neighborhood Watch Meeting is Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 7:00pm. The location will be the same, Village Hall Community Room. On June 1, 2026 we lost Police and Fire Commissioner Clinton Thornton. What an incredible person who always had positive words and support for both the Police and Fire Departments. Commissioner Thornton worked for the Bellwood Fire Department for over 20 years until he retired. It was a great honor not only hearing his wise words when I was a young Officer but then as a Chief. He will be missed and never forgotten.

Attended the Bellwood Publuc Library Summer Reading Kickoff with Mayor Harvey and Commissioner Stewart. Had a great time meeting the staff and sampling food at the taco and snow cone trucks. Stop by and enjoy the facility and joy the many events going on throughout the summer.

On April 27, 2026 Officer Rasheka Norwood was a featured guest at Young Scholars Professional Day at North Lawndale College Prep in Chicago. Officer Norwood spoke to a small group of students who many are first-generaltion college bound and shared her career journey, current role, lessons learned and answered students questions with discussion. Officer Norwood is a Proviso West High School, Western Illinois University (B.S. Criminal Justice, Political Science), and Aurora University (M.S. Social Work) graduate. The Bellwood Department is proud of her willingness to volunteer her time to help our youth and be a good example in the community.
