A Flash Flood Warning including Chicago IL, Cicero IL and Oak Lawn IL until 1:30 PM CDT
We are seeing rain rates nearing 1 inch per hour within a band of showers moving through Chicago at this time.
Do NOT drive through flooded roads, find an alternate route.
On this day....22 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001.

Heat and humidity build into the area midweek with the worst conditions expected Wednesday and Thursday. Peak heat indices are expected in the 105-115 degree range so be sure to limit time outdoors and stay hydrated. Some relief is expected toward the end of the week.
Here is a look at forecast peak heat indices Tuesday through Thursday with highest values expected Wednesday. Thunderstorm development over Lake Michigan remains possible which could disrupt heating across at least portions of the area.

It is with great sadness that we share with you the sudden passing of one of our active members, Mark Decker. He joined the unit in 2016. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this sad time.

A line of storms is moving east through Northern Illinois and intensifying as it gets closer to the Chicago Metro area. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch was continued through 10 PM. The main hazards expected are heavy downpours, frequent lightning, strong wind gusts, and small hail. This storm system is expected to continued to move through the night, with showers and storms continuing into early Saturday morning.

6am update:
Crews are still on scene traffic will be heavily impacted on Manheim through the morning rush.
Units are on scene of a water main break in the 800 block of Mannheim. NB lanes of traffic are reduced, please avoid the area if you can, if you have to travel through please drive with caution.
Tonight, our members took a break from training and had a ball!! A bowling ball that is. We had a fun night bowling, lots of laughs and good conversations. It's good to be able to relax and have fun.
Soon it's back to training and preparing for a busy summer of details.
Yesterday the department assisted both the police and fire Departments on a structure fire in town. Thankfully no one was injured.
This morning our department assisted Forest Park Police Department, Village of Maywood Police Department, Broadview Police Department, Bellwood Police Department, Hillside Police Department and Westchester Police Departments with the Special Olympics IL Law Enforcement Torch Run.
We provided traffic control as well as our cooling bus for runners.
A thank you to Maywood Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for assisting as well.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for parts of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin until 8 PM CDT. In our area all Illinois counties except for Ford and Iroquois are in the watch.
In addition to the potential for a few tornadoes in and near the watch area, severe thunderstorms may produce scattered instances of damaging hail and wind gusts strong enough to blown down tree limbs and fences.
Have multiple ways to receive warnings and be prepared to quickly take shelter if severe weather threatens your area.
A line of strong to potentially severe storms is expected this afternoon and evening. One more day in the 60s tomorrow will be followed by a much cooler weekend with highs only in the 40s and maybe a little bit of rain on Saturday.
Stay weather aware this afternoon and evening as another round of severe storms moves through our area. The greatest threats are damaging winds and hail, though a tornado or two may occur, too. Storms should weaken as they approach Indiana toward sunset.
On Saturday, we assisted Speaker of the Illinois House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch and the Bellwood Police Department with traffic for the shredding event. At times the line was 6 blocks long. A huge thanks to Mr Welch and Mayor Harvey for sponsoring the event, also a thank you to all the residents who waited very patiently in the long line.
Tonight our members trained on hoses, pumps, and ladders. Lt Wheeler trained the members on hoses and pumps. How to throw the lines, the placement and how to re-roll them. He also gave a lesson on trash pumps. Chief taught safe climbing techniques and placement of ladders.
