The Belmar Police Department would like to congratulate five of our Class II Special Law Enforcement Officers on their graduation from the Monmouth County Police Academy last evening.

After months of rigorous training, dedication, and hard work, these officers have successfully completed the academy and are now prepared to begin the next chapter of their law enforcement careers serving the residents and visitors of Belmar and Lake Como this summer season.

We wish them continued success and a safe career in law enforcement. Please join us in congratulating the officers.

🚔 Please Join Us in Welcoming Officer Joseph DeFeo 🚔

The Belmar Police Department is proud to welcome Officer Joseph DeFeo as the newest addition to our department. Officer DeFeo officially took the oath of office during last night’s Borough Council meeting.

Officer DeFeo began his law enforcement career with the Belmar Police Department in 2016 as a Class I Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO I). In 2018, he was promoted to a Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO II), serving in that role until 2020, when he accepted a full-time position with the Spring Lake Heights Police Department.

After six years of dedicated service with the Spring Lake Heights Police Department, Officer DeFeo has returned to Belmar to continue his career in the community where it began.

We are excited to have Officer DeFeo join our team and wish him a long, safe, and successful career in law enforcement.

Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Officer DeFeo to the Belmar Police Department family!

🚨 TRAFFIC ADVISORY 🚨

The Spring Lake 5 Mile Run will take place tomorrow, Saturday, May 23, 2026, with the race beginning at 8:30 AM.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and temporary road closures beginning at approximately 8:00 AM.

The following traffic restrictions will be in place:
• Ocean Avenue southbound closed at 19th Avenue
• North Boulevard closed
• Main Street in Lake Como southbound closed at 22nd Avenue

🚫 NO PARKING will be permitted on North Boulevard from 12:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday. Vehicles remaining on North Boulevard during the posted no parking hours will be towed.

Please follow all posted signs and directions from Public Safety personnel and race volunteers. Plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time.

The New Jersey Seafood Festival will take place in Belmar this weekend on the east side of Silver Lake.

Festival hours are as follows:

📅 Friday, May 15th: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
📅 Saturday, May 16th: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
📅 Sunday, May 17th: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Please be advised that there will be road closures and no parking in areas surrounding the festival grounds. Large crowds and traffic are expected throughout the weekend.

Motorists and residents are encouraged to plan accordingly, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted traffic regulations and officer directions.

We appreciate your cooperation and hope everyone enjoys a safe and successful weekend in Belmar!

**Summer Traffic Pattern Updates in Lake Como**

🚨 TRAFFIC ADVISORY – 5K Race/Walk on Saturday🚨

This Saturday, May 2nd, the Jersey Shore Team Hope Walk 5K for Huntington's Disease will take place, starting at 09:00 AM from Bar Anticipation on 16th Avenue.

⛔ Road Closures Begin at 8:30 AM

16th Avenue will be closed from B Street to Railroad Avenue at the start of the race until all runners turn onto B Street.

🏃 Race Route:
16th Ave ➡️ B Street ➡️ 19th Ave ➡️ Snyder Ave ➡️ North Blvd
Runners will continue around the lake, return to Main Street, and proceed north through Lake Como.

🚗 Traffic Information:
Expect delays during race hours.
17th Ave & Main St and 18th Ave & Main St will remain open on the east side of Main Street for northbound traffic.

🚧 Traffic Advisory – Multiple Road Work Locations 🚧

The Belmar Police Department advises residents and visitors of ongoing road and utility work at several locations, which may cause delays or road closures over the next several days:

🛑 5th Avenue – Belmar (milling and paving)
🛑 Fernwood Road – Lake Como (milling and paving)
🛑 16th Avenue & Ocean Avenue – Belmar (utility work, today only)

Motorists should use caution when traveling through these areas, and follow all posted detours and signage.

Please plan alternate routes when possible and allow extra travel time.
