Simple, as the working mom of a young child, having dealt with unprecedented challenges over the past few years, I feel it is time to make a difference.

It's over. After 3+ months of campaigning, introducing myself and handing out thousands of pieces of candy, it's over.

While 4th place isn't where i imagined ending up, I'm pleased with my showing, and will start my next chapter soon. Keep your eyes out for my next step!

Most importantly, I have a TON of people to thank:

Sean and TJ - for giving me pep talks and advising me that we needed more naps, snacks and longer recess
Mom and Dad - Thank you for believing in me and contributing!
Bill and Jackie Starnes - my "In Laws" for moral support and introducing me to some of the right people.

I'm going to relax, look at the next election, and decide my next step. I will eventually make it to the board with your help!!!

One question I've gotten a few times is "if you are elected, how will you change *insert situation here*?"

That's a great question, and one I don't have a great answer for. When elected, i certainly intend to hit the ground running, but I don't honestly know what I will have the ability to change until I get in there. The School Board is an entity where there are group decisions. I intend to make sure that things like teacher pay are looked at with new eyes immediately, but I can't make promises about what I can change until I see what I am dealing with.

my daughter has asked if I can get her longer recess. I wonder if I can have any impact on the car rider line every day. Right now, I just want to win so I have the opportunity to make a differene.

As we get into the final stretch of this campaign, a few thoughts.

8 years ago, my entire identity changed. I became a mom. Since then, a lot of issues that didn't seem to bother me have become hot button issues that i want to "fix" for my daughter.

Nearly 3 years ago, the whole word changed. We hit Covid status. My daughter was getting ready to start kindergarten, and we didn't know if she would attend in person or not. I watched my first Gaston County School Board Meeting. At that point, I decided I was going to make a run so that I could help make decisions that will shape the future of my daughter's education.

So here I am. But first, I am a mom. I'm not a politician, I'm not affiliated with Democrats or Republicans. I lean more to the conservative side, but not always. I believe to be successful in this role, I need to listen to everyone - children, parents, teachers and administrators.

I may not be the most put together candidate, my idea of dressed up is jeans and a button up shirt. You may not see a lot of my signs out there, I don't have a fancy webpage or handouts, heck I don't even have a good headshot - my daughter took most of the ones I've been using.

I can promise you one thing - I will fight for the children, teachers, parents and everyone involved with education in Gaston County.

I strongly believe that School Board is a non-partisan office for a reason. While I personally lean more conservatively, I will listen to as many people who want to talk before making any decisions. I’m not doing this for the politics, I’m doing it so that my daughter and her teachers get the support they need to make her education the best it can be.

Good evening all, time for the updates I promised.

First, addressing the post from this morning. One of the groups I visited while campaigning has found out that I support monuments staying where they are. INCLUDING monuments that some may see as controversial, like the Confederate Monument outside the Gaston County Courthouse. Firstly, I'm not sure how this has anything to do with the School Board, but let me be clear on this, I do not support the removal of ANY monument that was placed to remember history. History is static, it does not change. You may not like it, you may be offended by it, or you may not agree with what happened, but it happened and you cannot change that. I feel that way about monuments, mascots and all historical artifacts.

Now, onto the big topic I've been fielding questions on lately, the teachers getting paid. I have been in the corporate world for over 30 years, I've been through several software conversions, and NEVER have I seen one take 10+ months to fix. If elected, this is one of the first things I want to dig deeper into, and if nothing else, I will work to get people in place to at least answer questions. Why do we not have temps working 24/7 to fix this and pay the people who we trust with our most precious resource. We need paper checks going out to fix any shortfalls. And we need to do it immediately.

Just some random thoughts for tonight. I hope to do this every night up to the election. I will respectfully answer any questions or concerns, just reach out. But please understand I will not answer questions meant to paint myself or my family in a a bad light. I am a hardworking mom, who wants what is best for her children, not a politician.

Friday night dance class with the kiddo. I feel like I have no time to post! We’re in the home stretch - less than 2 weeks until election night! I was thinking I need a meet and greet in the Dallas area next week - any ideas?!?
