Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Counselor Position

Full-time temporary position working for Allegany County Employment & Training Center, 7 Wells Lane, Belmont, NY 14813. The rate of pay is $15.00 per hour and we work 35 hours per week. The "anticipated" dates of work will be June 01, 2021 – August 30, 2021. This position has no paid time off/holiday pay, and does not require a Civil Service test.

Requires completion of minimum of two years of college w/ major study in Counseling, Social Work, Education or related field. Must have own transportation and valid NYS driver’s license. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience working with youth ages 16 – 20. Experience working with at-risk youth populations is desired but not mandatory. Applicant should be comfortable communicating with youth, parents, school staff, worksite supervisors and others.

Important qualities and attributes include: basic computer/keyboarding skills; accuracy in completing forms and written documentation; professional telephone, written and face-to-face communication; organizational skills; problem-solving; ability to ask questions and gather information; reliability; confidentiality.

The Summer Youth Employment Counselor assists the Youth Services Coordinator and other Center staff in planning, preparation and operation of the Allegany County Employment & Training Center’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
SYEP provides paid Work Experience to eligible youth ages 16 – 20 in Allegany County. SYEP participants may have barriers to employment, including learning or physical disabilities, low income status, parenting, legal issues, being high school drop outs, and other barriers.

Tasks may include:
🔸 Schedule, perform and document individual interviews with youth at their local school districts as a part of selection of participants for the program.
🔸 Assist with appropriately matching youth with job sites according to their needs and abilities.
🔸 Assist with the planning and provision of pre-program orientations to parents and youth, including written materials.
🔸 Travel to work sites within Allegany County to monitor worksites, check for compliance with NY State Child Labor Laws, program safety rules and SYEP Rules & Expectations.
🔸 Work with youth individually and in groups as needed, to encourage and develop positive work habits and interpersonal skills.
🔸 Counsel and encourage youth to remain in the program through difficult times, to complete their High School programs and to pursue post-secondary education.
🔸 Document progress of youth in the program in written form as needed, including reports of behavior problems and development of resolutions with the youth.
🔸 Work with other staff to resolve workplace adjustment and behavior problems involving high-risk youth.
🔸 Maintain confidential youth files containing income eligibility documentation, enrollment/exit paperwork, payroll forms, work skills assessments, Individualized Education Plans, etc., which are required for local and State audits.

Spray equipment may be high pressure. Using a steam cleaner, pressure paint spray, hose nozzles, various paints, thinners and face mask and other personal protective equipment related tools and equipment to perform task listed under Duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Mix paint per specifications, fill equipment, connect hose and spray gun, spray material and assembles by moving gun at the required speed to apply the paint per specification.
2.Set up area to ensure specifications are met and proper tools are on hand; lay out, humidity, material handling, grounding, personal protective equipment, etc
3.Responsible for cleaning and the proper care of all equipment. 4.After painting is completed, mark items as to job number, etc., according to drawings.
5.Follow safety procedures and practices and keep work area neat and orderly.
6.All required OSHA protection equipment must be worn as required.
7.Inspection of product, both in process and final via specified inspection tools, such as dry film thickness gages, as required. 8.Ability to work at height (ladders, scissor lift, etc)
9.Ability to operate various types of cranes, forklift or other material handling equipment.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to four years high school, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus minimum 6 months related experience or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Very comprehensive benefit package to be discussed during interview.

The Belmont Free Library is hiring a library assistant/children's program coordinator. Starting August 27th. 10 hours a week. Thursdays 9 am-1 pm and Friday 1 pm- 7 pm. 7-8 hours will be dedicated to running the circulation desk via an online library system and assisting library patrons with checking out materials, computer logins, shelving items, answering phone calls, etc. 2-3 hours will be dedicated to planning and implementing library programs for children.
