Dear BRSSD Families and Staff,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to share that the Board has unanimously approved the appointment of Craig Goldman as Interim Superintendent of the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District.

Craig is a familiar face to many in our community, having served as BRSSD's Chief Business Official from 2015 to 2020. During his time in the District, he was a valued member of the leadership team and developed a deep understanding of our schools, staff, and community.

In addition to his service in BRSSD, Craig previously served as Superintendent of the Mountain View Whisman School District, where he led a high-performing district through growth, facilities improvements, and academic achievement initiatives. Since retiring, he has continued to support school districts throughout the Bay Area in a variety of interim leadership roles, helping organizations navigate leadership transitions and maintain continuity of operations.

Craig will begin serving as Interim Superintendent in mid-July and will remain in the role until the Board appoints the District's next superintendent. The Board is confident that Craig's knowledge of BRSSD, combined with his extensive educational leadership experience, will provide stability and continuity while the District completes its superintendent search.

With the superintendent search well underway, community input remains an important part of that process, and we encourage all staff, families, and community members to participate in the districtwide survey below.

We appreciate the many staff members, parents, and community members who have already participated in the superintendent search process through focus groups and other engagement opportunities. This valuable feedback is helping shape the leadership profile and search criteria for BRSSD's next superintendent. The Board will review and approve the final search criteria at a Special Board Meeting on Monday, July 29th. Community members who have not yet had an opportunity to provide input are encouraged to complete the survey before it closes on June 24th. Additional information about the superintendent search can be found on our district website.

Please join us in welcoming Craig back to the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District. We are grateful for his service and continued support of our community during this transition.

Sincerely,

David Koss

President, Board of Trustees
Belmont-Redwood Shores School District

Summer Meals in San Mateo County

Summer Meals in San Mateo County

During the school year, all BRSSD students are able to access breakfast and lunch daily at school, free of charge. With summer approaching, we want to make sure that families are aware of other sources where they may be able to access nutritious meals during the summer when school is not in session.

The California Department of Education provides a list of sites annually that operate the Summer Food Service Program. Families can visit https://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/sh/sn/summersites26.asp and click on the map to find a list of sites operating within San Mateo County. Each site listed includes dates, locations, meals served, and contact information. These programs are not run by BRSSD, so we recommend reaching out directly to the contact information provided in each program’s listing for more information about eligibility and how to participate.

Families can also download the CA Meals for Kids mobile app from https://www.cde.ca.gov/re/mo/cameals.asp to help find nearby California Afterschool and Summer Meal Program sites.

Dear Belmont-Redwood Shores School District Community,
As we come to the close of another school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on all that we have accomplished together and express my gratitude to the many individuals who make our schools such special places for students.

This year was filled with learning, growth, and achievement. Across our District, students challenged themselves academically, explored new interests, developed meaningful relationships, and continued to demonstrate the qualities reflected in our Profile of a Learner. Whether in classrooms, on stages, through service projects, or in countless everyday moments, our students inspired us with their curiosity, perseverance, creativity and kindness.

None of this happens without the dedication of our staff. Our teachers, administrators, and support staff work tirelessly to create safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environments where every student can thrive. Their commitment to students is evident every day, and BRSSD is stronger because of their care, expertise and unwavering belief in children.

I also want to thank our families, parent organizations, volunteers, community partners and SchoolForce. Your support enriches our schools and strengthens the connection between home, school, and community. Together, we continue to create opportunities that benefit all students and help ensure a bright future for our District.

As you know, I will be concluding my service to the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District at the end of June. It has been a privilege to serve this community and I am deeply grateful for the relationships, experiences and memories that we have shared. As a reminder, Human Capital Enterprises will be supporting BRSSD with a superintendent search and your participation is important. Information about these opportunities to provide input, including how to participate in focus groups and access the survey, will be shared through the District website and ParentSquare. Please check the District website, ParentSquare, as well as email for updates on these opportunities.

As summer begins, I hope you find time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. Congratulations to all of our students on a successful year. We look forward to welcoming our community back on the first day of school, August 12th!
Thank you for making my time here in BRSSD truly special and I wish everyone a wonderful summer.

With Gratitude,
Dan Deguara

Dear Belmont-Redwood Shores School District Community,

As many of you know, Superintendent Dan Deguara recently shared with our community his decision to transition from his role at the end of the school year. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we want to again express our appreciation for his years of leadership, partnership, and dedication to the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District community. We are grateful for his service and wish Dan and his family the very best in this next chapter.

The Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring a thoughtful and comprehensive transition process while continuing to support the important work of the District. Our schools, staff, and leadership teams remain fully focused on serving students and families and maintaining the strong educational programs, services, and operations our community expects.

To support this process, we will partner with a professional search firm specializing in superintendent searches to help identify and recruit highly qualified candidates for our district. This week, the Board released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for executive search firms and anticipates selecting a firm on June 1st, with the search process beginning immediately thereafter. We are committed to conducting a thorough process that reflects the priorities, values, and aspirations of our community. Once a firm has been selected, the community can expect additional information regarding opportunities to provide feedback and participate in the search process.

Throughout the summer, the Board will continue to provide periodic public updates regarding the superintendent search process. In parallel, we are also working closely with district leadership to ensure continuity, stability and support for our students, staff and families during this transition.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your continued partnership and support of our schools and students.

Sincerely,

David Koss
President, Board of Trustees
Belmont-Redwood Shores School District
