Yesterday the eligibility for COVID 19 vaccine was opened up to those 60 years of age and older. We are currently working to change the online registration form for our waiting list to reflect this change. In the meantime, or if you or someone you know, doesn't have internet access, you can call our office at 585-268-9390 and we will add you. We are continuing to use those on this list to fill slots at local pharmacies. Due to the increase in vaccine that is available, this waiting list is moving very quickly.

Allegany County Board of Elections

There are lots of misunderstandings out there right now about mail ballots. NY State does NOT have an order to mail a ballot to every voter. The only way to receive an absentee ballot is to call our office and request one at this time. Your options for voting are one of the following: (as of 8/5/2020)

1. Vote in person in Belmont for Early Voting
2. Vote in person at your regular poll site
3. Absentee-YOU must make the effort to notify us that you will not be able to vote in person.

Call the office with any questions or concerns we are happy to help our Allegany County Voters. 🇺🇸

Considering attending an event? Church, graduation party, wedding, summer camp etc?

Georgia Tech has produced a COVID-19 Event Risk Assessment Planning Tool. You can customize the event size and then see the estimated chance that at least one COVID-19 positive person will be present.

If you went to a small Euchre tournament (under 25 people) in Geneseo, there's a 7% chance someone will be COVID positive.

A Spiedie eating competition in Binghamton with 100 people would yield a 46% chance of encountering a COVID-19 positive person.

At a Chicken Riggie Festival in Utica, with 500 people, you have a 99% chance of being exposed to at least 1 person with COVID-19.

(We don't know if any of these are actual events, or if we are just indulging in wishful thinking for post-pandemic life...)

The Allegany County Office for the Aging received a number of the animatronic pets for our Allegany County seniors! We only have a few left!

A 76 year old woman who has recieved an anomitronic cat reports "It helps to break up the silence of the day. It gets lonely sitting her by yourself all day and night, and this just makes me feel like someones here with me and it provides so much comfort without the work of a real animal. I just love it!"

This morning, NYSOFA Director Greg Olsen was honored to appear at the 25th Annual Virtual Elder Law Forum, hosted by Louis Pierro of Pierro, Connor & Strauss, LLC. Wnyt-Tv Newschannel 13 anchor Benita Zahn interviewed NYS Senate Aging Committee Chair NYS Senator Rachel May, NYS Assembly Aging Committee Chair Assemblymember Harry Bronson, Assemblymember John McDonald, Assemblyman Steve Stern, as well as Director Olsen, who spoke with Aging-NY's Director Becky Preve about the pandemic response, and also the robotic pet project.

Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.

Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

NYSOFA thanks all the men and women who are serving and have served, and all the families who support those who have served. Thank you for your sacrifice to uphold our freedoms and way of life!

Twin Tiers Meals

Have you ever wanted to do something to help, but you just don't know what? Twin Tier Meals is a way that people can donate meals to others in the community and all you have to do is:

1) choose how many meals you want to purchase for
donation and
2) chose which agency you want the meals to go to

That's it!! The meals are then prepared and provided to the agency of your choice to be distributed out into the community. Allegany County Office for the Aging was honored to be chosen as a recipient of these donated meals to help provide food to our seniors during this difficult time! Thank you Twin Tiers Meals!

Good Times of Olean and Sound Communications are partnered with Cattaraugus Community Action, ACCORD, Allegany County Office of the Aging, and Believers Chapel to provide meals to people in need in Cattaraugus and Allegany counties.

May is Older Americans Month! During any other year, our office would celebrate May as Older Americans Month by having May Parties as our Congregate Luncheon Centers with great music from a band, a hot and delicious meal as well as a volunteer recognition during the party. This year, we have had to make some major adjustments as a nation and as a community. Our Congregate Luncheon Centers remain closed but our office continues to support our older adults with Meals on Wheels, transportation, Medicare insurance counseling and much, much more. Help us celebrate Older Americans Month by reaching out to an older adult and thanking them for everything they contribute to our communities!

This is my first time on this site so forgive me if I am bringing up something that has been done in the past. I am on a few other face book sites for widows or women that find themselves suddenly alone. Has OFA ever hooked up with BOCES or others to hold classes on manual things that we find we need to know like: how to take kitchen sink pipes apart if we have a clog or how to check our tires air pressure and how to put air in the tires, how to use an electric drill, cut a simple board, change batteries in something, what tools would be handy for us to have around the house, etc. Things that we never had to do before but now find we have to maintain our homes and vehicles by ourselves. I have found that so many of us can't afford to pay a handyman for some simple little thing but we just don't know how to do stuff and often lack the confidence to forge ahead on it.
