“In today’s digital age, survivors have an exhausting list of considerations to protect their information and their safety. Whether protecting location, online activity, home, and work addresses, or children’s whereabouts, so much of this is critical for a survivor’s safety. Survivors have a right to technology and shouldn’t have to choose between staying safe and using a device or platform. Many people rely on the internet to shop, look for jobs, search for resources, maybe even conduct business as part of their livelihood. Strong privacy and security policies and settings, along with access to technology, help keep all of us safe. “(techsafety.org)
Technology is amazing and keeps us all connected, but it also can have negative consequences for survivors of domestic violence. Abusers may often use a smartphone, social media, tablets, computers, and other electronic means to stalk their victims and gain access to activities and details of their life. If you are feeling unsure of your tech safety, you can reach out to an advocate with ACCORD’s Domestic Violence program at 1-800-593-5322 for more information about how to secure your devices, become more aware of how your devices/accounts may be accessed, as well as ways to prevent tech abuse to help protect yourself and your family.

SoCal doctor sets the record straight on COVID-19 vaccine and fertility

There are many concerns on social media from women who say they're avoiding getting the COVID-19 vaccine because they fear it might affect fertility.

Check out this video below, where ABC7 asked Dr. Anthony Cardillo, an ER specialist and CEO of Mend Urgent Care in Los Angeles, to help set the record straight on this misinformation spreading online.

Dr. Cardillo urged women who have any questions about this topic to consult with their obstetrician gynecologist before turning to Google.

Shirley Anita Chisholm was an American politician, educator, and author. In 1968, she became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress, representing New York's 12th congressional district, a district centered on Bedford-Stuyvesant, for seven terms from 1969 to 1983. In the 1972 United States presidential election, she became the first African-American candidate for a major party's nomination for President of the United States, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. #MotivationMonday #CommunityActionMonth

In celebration of #CommunityActionMonth, join ACCORD in honoring today (5/22) as Harvey Milk Day in memory of Harvey Milk, a gay rights activist assassinated in 1978. Harvey Milk was a prominent gay activist during the twentieth century. He ran for office three times before becoming the first openly gay person elected into California public office, where he acted as a city supervisor. Harvey Milk Day came about as a day to remember and teach about Milk's life and his work to stop the discrimination against g**s and le****ns. #HarveyMilkDay

Domestic violence can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any time. There is no way to tell who may be in an abusive relationship. Domestic violence may include physical violence that leaves bruises, cuts, or other markings that can be seen; however, often you may see nothing out of place. All forms of violence may be perpetrated on someone without leaving any outward signs. All you may ever see from the outside is a smile.
“Violence against women is a human rights violation that takes place every single day around the world. Globally, one in three women experiences physical or s*xual violence, mostly by an intimate partner. While domestic violence and abuse are sometimes hidden, if we know the signs of an abusive relationship, we may be able to recognize it better and seek or offer help.” *
Silence is not the answer to ending domestic violence – for yourself or those you love. If you or someone you know has questions about domestic violence, is in an abusive relationship, or just needs someone to talk to, reach out to our 24/7 hotline at 1-800-593-5322.

In need of food? ACCORD can help. Call 585-268-7605 and select option 2. We'll be happy to assist you!
Is there any way possible that signage be placed so that traffic flows first come, first served? I know more than one vehicle that politely went to the end of the line, waited 1 to 1 1/2 hours only to have a whole line of late comers...and I mean 1 hour or more later...crowd into the line in front of those who had been there waiting even before the event started. And then the line jumpers ended up with food while those who waited for 1 to 1 1/2 hours received nothing. I realize this is difficult to manage, but it can be really discouraging. And the people get nasty on both sides. Maybe pre-registration for all events would be best.
When is the next food distribution at the firehall in Belmont ???
